My 3rd is 6 1/2 weeks old, so time to start thinking about birth control. I'm reluctant to do the pill again since in the past 6 weeks I have missed my prenatal vitamin many times, so not trusting my brain now that I'm caring for three boys! Since I am nursing, that leaves me with just a few options. I was wondering about your experiences with the various IUD's, especially those of you who have migraine with aura. I read that Mirena (and other hormone birth control) can increase the risk of stroke in those of us who have this kind of migraine, which concerns me because I have had 2 migraine episodes that mimic a stroke (slurred speech, paralysis on one side of my body). Just wondering what you migraine sufferers have experienced with both Mirena and the non-hormone Paragard. Thanks!
I used the Mirena for 5 years (which was a much better time option for me than the 10 year Paraguard) with a history of severe migranes with absolutely NO problems. In fact, I haven't felt better in my entire life than I felt with the Mirena in. However, I know that everyone is different and will have different experiences with different medications. Good Luck!
I get migraines (similar with speech issues, nonambulatory, etc.... sudafed fixes them for me faster than imatrex, btw). Pretty much always have. Getting Paragard 10 years ago didn't change anything as far as my headaches (no better, no worse).

I have the paragard and I Havnt experienced any more headaches than my usual. It hurts getting it put in and my periods are heavier but I love it. Its worth it to me!
I have similar issues and can no longer take any hormones bc of it. I opted for the paraguard iud. I think it's great. Only issue is I have longer periods. Good luck.
There are several sites out there as well as class-action lawsuits which are dealing with Mirena induced migraines. My sister had hers removed and had a Copper T (Paragard) put in for that very reason.
I wouldn't touch Mirena.
Are you planning on having another? If not...perhaps it's time to talk hubby into a vasectomy. :-)
