I may have my iud taken out in a year,i am just curious on what I will experience when I have it out so i can be prepared. I have heard that you get your period after it out and it might be heavier than normal, just wondering how things go when the iud's out, thank you.

Hi S.!

I just had my Mirena IUD taken out in September. I had a period that lasted a little longer than my normal but it was pretty much the same as far as heavy to light. The only thing that was weird for me was I would have them about 37 days apart instead of 28. Mine didn't last very long as I got pregnant in November. It was not painful at all...it may just take your body time to get used to menstruating your normal again.

I am on my 3rd IUD and the first two times I had it out, it didn't hurt, nothing happened...except I got pregnant right away. In fact, I was having my period both times it came out and that was my last period. Are you taking it out to try and get pregnant? Don't worry...it's a piece of cake to have it out. Even easier than having it put in. You cough and VOILA -- it's out.

i had the 10 year iud removed 2 years ago, it had lost the string at 5 year mark and the removal was a little longer then what a (normal removal) would be. My doc. end up needing some assitance after one hour of trying. it did hurt a bit but now as bad as having it put it, which I would describe as a hard slap in the face possible.
I started to bleed which is normal. I waited 6 month after this to try for baby # 2 after 10 years and sure enough I now have a nine month old.
I know this is the best birth control I ever used and would
highly recomend it if asked. my periods we 3 to 5 days after removal and normal flow for me. good luck

Hi S.,
I had my IUD (copper T) taken out in October and my periods got lighter, less cramps overall I'm glad I got it out. I had it for 5 years and I experienced a lot more pain with it then without it. The acctual removal was not very painful either.

I had mine taken out at the beginning of October, and had a period at the end of October (actually, my first since my daughter was born - I was still BF). My period was actually a little bit lighter than used to be, and the cramps (though still painful), were not as bad as before. Whether that is due to the IUD or having a baby, not sure. I got pregnant at the end of November, so it didn't take long for that to happen! Oh, my sex drive kicked WAY up after having it removed! Bonus perk!

I had mine taken out in December and it was just uncomfortable while she was taking it out. I got my period the next day and it lasted a week, and it was different from others, but not heavier. i don't really know how to explain it. since then i haven't gotten another period, but it's not because i'm pregnant :)
