I have a almost 20 month old baby girl named Sarah. The past 4 days she has been running a fever with each day getting worse. She does not have any congestion, runny nose, or any other syptoms you would see with a cold or flu. She does also have horrible bad breath. I DO brush her teeth twice a day. I have been giving her Tylanol every 4 to 6 hours but her fevers don't seem to be going down or away. I am wondering if her 2 year molers are coming in. I have felt her gum (in between her biteing me) and they don't seem to be swollen or have white caps on them as her other teeth did when they were coming in. I am wondering if the high (meaning 102 to 104.8) temps and bad breath are normal for her molers to be coming in? I would also like some advice on how to get her fever down. I have done the Tylanol thing like I said before, I have tried the cool baths...cool clothes on her forhead (she just takes them right off and throws them)....rubbing her down with Witch-hazel....and light clothing. Is there anything else I can do to ease my babies suffering? And YES.....I have taken her to the doctor, the did nothing. Told me to give her Tylanol and motrin and no need to bring her back unless her temp gets to 105 or greater. ( I currently am very upset with my doctor on this issue, it has happened in the past also so therefore I am looking for a regular pediatrician.)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My poor little girls fever still has not gone away. 6th day today and now has a head to toe rash. I did call her regular doctor and he did nothing for her. We have since found a new pediatrician (she was seeing our family doctor) and she will be seen this afternoon.

I have found that the best way to break a fever is to do a mix of tylenol and motrin (works for babies and teens I haven't had to use it on myself yet). What you do is get the baby tylenol and baby motrin (both liquid forms). Read the labels, I believe you give it to them every 6 hours for both. What you do is give her tylenol then 3 hours later give her motrin, 3 hours later give her tylenol, etc. Do this until the fever goes away. The reason why this won't be an overdose or harmful is because they are two different medicines that do two different things. The tylenol helps reduce fever and the motrin helps with bloodflow and reduces swelling.
This combo worked really great on my daughter, who is now almost 5 years old, when she was constantly getting ear infections while she was teething. It also worked really well for a mom of a teenager that I suggested it to. She had tried everything to break her daughter's fever and couldn't but as soon as she used the combo her fever dropped right away.
Let me know how it goes! (BTW the combo was suggested to me by my daughters doctor after I had brought her in after several ear infections. Being in the military at the time I had taken her to several different doctors either because I moved or they moved. They said it was better to let her body fight it off and build the immunities than to use antibiotics all the time and having her body build up an immunity to them. It was a test by them from a study they had referenced and it worked really well. She had fewer ear infections and fever after I did that and I haven't had to take her to a doctor for it after that. But they also said that if it didn't work to bring down the fever after a few days to bring her back in. You don't want to keep them on medicine for too long.)

I know this might sound like an awful thing to say, (I didn't like hearing it myself), but you might want to have her checked for diabetes. My oldest daughter was about the same age as yours when she was diagnoised. I thought that maybe she just had a bladder infection, because she had to pee so quickly after drinking, but when I mentioned that her breath smelled, well that's when test were done and as they say... the rest is history. I truly hope that it isn't something this serious, but it would be better to find out now.

I would contact your doctor immediately! A high fever for days is NOT normal. My first thoughts on cause might be an infection on tonsils or possibly there is something in her nose that shouldn't be there. Good luck!
