Instant Nausea

I have a very strange problem. At times, I get INTENSELY nauseous instantly (my chest tightens up too)... like within 5 seconds. When this occurs, it's like, I'm hardly aware of anything else that's going on around me. If someone talks to me, I don't hear it. It lasts from 2-10 minutes, and then goes away. Occasionally, I do throw up, but not every time. I'm not sick before or after. This happens about once a month for awhile, and then not again for another 6 months or so.

The strangest thing about it is that it all seems to be brought about or accompanied by an image in my head. Never anything bad or disturbing... for instance once I saw a sticker on someone's car at the zoo... another time, I saw myself riding in a car with my friends.

I try to block it out, and the faster I do this, the faster the nausea goes away. Sometimes, after it's over, I can't even remember what it was because I've blocked it out that much. Occasionally, it seems like I have the same image the next time it happens, but not every time.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?? What kind of doctor should I talk to?? I mentioned it to my neurologist once (I also have multiple sclerosis), and he seemed to blow it off and not think it was a big deal. I'm not sure where to go next.

What can I do next?

first of i would get another doctor my neighbor has ms and she will do something like that it is she calls it her black out and she tracks them if she gets to many she has to watch because it is like her warning sign for a big attack where she ends up loosing her ability to move and could possible have a stroke. I know all this because i have to watch her to she has three kids and i take them if anything happens. so i would go to a new doctor.

I think it may be a stress disorder. Like a panic attack or anxiety attack. You may not have figured what anxiety is linked to those image yet, or maybe linking it to a car ride or something. I'm not an expert, but I've experience it too at times and I know it's an anxiety attack. When everything around me seems to disappear and I get sick to my stomach. I start sweating and I have to calm myself down because I feel like I will pass out.
Speak to your doctor about anxiety attacks if it happens to frequently.

When I was pregnant with my first son I got incredibly nausous everytime I played this virtual pet game. I was having horrible all day sickness so I think that's why. My son is now 8 and if I see thoes pets I still get nausous. It could be you saw that image when you were sick and seeing it again even in your head is making you sick.

Hugs!

Why is it that Dr's blow women off so frequently? Women's intuition is so often RIGHT!

I don't want to scare you, because your problem probably isn't this...but in women, one common sign of heart attack is nausea. There is a small possibility that you are having little heart attacks. I'd encourage you to go to your general practioner and discuss the problem, and insist that you want an EKG done. If you think it would help, go to the American Heart Association website and print out information on nausea being a sign of heart attack.

My foster sister was 32 when she died of a heart attack. Her's was a post-surgical issue--a blood clot broke loose and traveled to her heart. But in her case, nausea was her primary sign.

check with your doctor-it sounds as if you might be suffering from panic disorder. my aunt at times actually freezes up no matter what she is doing. it also makes her unaware of what else is going on and she doesn't know what prompts them. hope you find an answer soon.

Sounds like it could be anxiety. I know when I had anxiety/panic attacks, I would totally turn inward, nothing else seemed to exist during. Tight chest, upset stomach, racing heart, shaking, etc. The fact that the images you think of start that reaction, and that you are able to quickly release them could mean anxiety/panic.

Did something happen in your past that is coming out in those images? Are you going thru a rough time?

I'd first talk to your doctor, and go from there.

Good luck and God bless.

I'm not sure if the nausea was a symptom of my sister's, but several years ago, my family noticed that she would kind of seem to be in a daze and not coherent. She only passed out once or twice, but usually she would just go in to a trance and she wouldn't hear us, or see anything. After much testing, doctors diagnosed her with epilepsy and said that these trances were seizures. She never had any physical signs (such as shaking, vomiting, etc) that would otherwise indicate a seizure, but that these daydreams were them. I hope this doesn't get you upset, but maybe you could talk to your doctor about this. Good Luck!
