Hey mama's! I'm going to go buy a Billy Bookcase with the glass doors. Now. . . I'm a little nervous to buy this with glass and a baby, but It's the only one that I like and has doors on the bottom half, and the top not covered. Does anybody have this or any of the glass covered shelves or tv stands with children? Does it hold up well?
It's the BILLY/ BILLY NYCKELBY

What can I do next?

The glass in all of the furniture applications is high strength tempered for safety reasons. Not to say it couldn't be smashed, but it is designed to withstand quite a bit of stress.

BILLIY bookcase is an IKEA icon. The shelves do have a weight limit and the unit should be anchored to the wall to keep it from tipping if a child decided to climb on it.

I have 2 of these cases and my son was a baby when we got them. I had no issue with them, but as Luci's Mom said you've got to anchor them, they tip.

We've had 3 pine clear laquer Billy's for about 15 years! They don't make that color anymore. They hold up extremely well, even with moves on a truck. We have the bottom extra cabinet with solid doors. We never got the glass doors. The bottom with doors is good and you can latch it. It's bumped out another 12 inches so the bottom depth becomes like 24", it's great for storage! Don't know if they have that accessory anymore.

We have the regular BILLY bookcases and they have held up great. When we moved though we stood them up facing each other and the backing of them broke due to the wind on the freeway. We just got replacement thin pressboard and nailed the new piece back on. Good as new, as we speak they are holding a ton of junk in our spare room. =) LOVE IKEA!
As for glass we gave our glass coffee table, and end tables away, but they were extremely old and not very sturdy. My inlaws have really nice heavy furinture with glass inserts and my 18 mo does great around them.
Good Luck!
