My husband inherited a home in Ohio and we may be getting transferred there due to his job. The home is OLDDDDDD, so I need to know what types of things I need to be concerned about going in. I know lead, mold and asbestos. Is there anything else and what types of companies should I contact to check for these things?

What can I do next?

Hi N.,

I would contact a home inspector to start with. They will be able to lead you in the right direction.

I know in Illinois they're regulated by The Office of Banks and Real Estate (I'm an appraiser and we fall under the same regulatory grouping. Try the Ohio site and do a search for inspectors. You can ask for their license number and do a search on their sight to make sure they are up to date on their liscensing and have no negative judgements or issues linked to their liscense.

Good luck!

Also check for Radon. Most inspection companies (at least the ones in Illinois) will check for asbestos, mold, etc.

A home inspection service is able to look at all of that for you.

My husband is a Realtor. He would probably be able to tell you what kind of tests need to be done. I think you are on the right track though! Don't forget about a radon test. You should probably contact a good home inspector in Ohio. If you need some more help let me know!

I can have my husband speak with you.

Good Luck!
