I want to know if there are any others out there that get really really ANGRY when it is HOT outside and you HAVE to be in it? I don't know if it is caused with the fact that I do not have A/C in my van (which really really really makes me mad) or if there is a disorder that can cause this much irritability... When I cool off in A/C I feel really bad for all the yelling that i have done. I don't like to use "potty mouth" but i tend to use them when i am hot... I try to catch myself but I am just TOO HOT AND GRUMPY... I AM NUTS aren't I?
Please let me know that I am not nuts and there are others out there with similar symptoms.

Thank you.
K. J.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice... I did however see my doctor and spoke to my counselor and we have come to the conclusion that I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and the heat can effect me like that... SO, I am on medicine now and doing MUCH better! Thank you all agian!
Blessings to you all,
K. J.

PS: PRAISE BE TO GOD! I GOT MY A/C FIXED IN MY VAN TOO!

I am really sensitive to heat as well, I get overheated very easily and am prone to heat exhaustion. So is my son. It is a condition that runs in our family, I do not remember the proper medical term for it. This could be what is happening with you, its very easy to get cranky when you don't feel well. I'd see your doctor. Also, extreme irritability can be due to several different mental conditions. No, I am not saying you are crazy. Depression is one of those issues. I have dealt with depression for years and my main symptem was irritablibilty and flying off the handle about particular issues. With Therapy and medication I felt like a different person. I would start with my doc, if there are no physical reasons for it, they should refer you to a psychologist. Good Luck.

you are not nuts. i get grumpy when i get out in the heat too. since you are aware of this reaction, you can prepare yourself better for when you have to be in the heat for extended periods of time.

i talk to myself a lot. it helps me stay calmer. when i feel myself getting grouchy, i take deeps breaths.

since you don't have a/c in the van, i can understand the extended exposure really irritates you. don't know what to suggest there. don't know your finances, but can you look into purchasing another vehicle? or maybe have the a/c repaired?

you may want to talk to your doctor about the reactions. is there anything else that sets you off like the heat does? my brother-in-law has anger management problems - there is medication you can take to help control this problem.

I would absolutely talk with your doctor about it. You could have depression - which does not mean you are "mental" but rather just have a physical issue with brain chemicals, just like someone with the flu has a physical issue with their body. Many people don't realize that extreme irritability can be the only sign of depression. If this is the case, and you are treated, you will feel like a new person! Even if this isn't the case, the doctor may have other suggestions for you.

Also, could it be stress? If you are highly stressed, it may take something small such as hot weather to set you off. The best solution to stress (other than solving the source of it, but that is not always possible) is to either work it off (exercise) or make sure you take time out to unwind.

If it were me, I would definitely try to change the behavior, especially if you have kids around you don't want them to be catching your potty language! Even if you have to buy a new/used vehicle with air conditioning!

Hi K.,
I know how you feel!!! I thought I was nuts or hormonal but I get VERY VERY grumpy and cranky when I get too hot. I pretty much camp out in the house or only go to places that are air conditioned in the summer. On the rare occassion I will got to Busch Gardens or someplace like that and after a couple of hours in the heat I am snapping at everyone and ready to start a fight if someone looks at me wrong. It is a horrible feeling knowing you are that way and the only thing you can do to prevent it is just to avoid the heat. I don't know of any diagnosis or anything else to help. Just try your best to avoid being out in the heat as much as possible.
Good luck!!!!

I think the heat can cause you to react that way. I was at my acupuncturist this week and they told me each person has a constitution. Mine is Fire. And of course, being a Fire in August in Florida is a very difficult thing. Plus, I am pregnant!
Anyway, since you don't have AC in your car, go prepared to cool off. Drink a lot of water, get one of those cooling neck bandanas to wear when you are in the car and eat cooling foods for your meals.
Here's one article about that: http://www.dhyansanjivani.org/chinese_food.asp
and here's one that lists cooling foods as well: http://www.sacu.org/food.html
And keep in mind that September is around the corner!!
