Need a cool creative gift idea for my BFF that lives across the country. She started this whole "mess" of sending a gift for my b-day each year and now I am locked in. She will be 36 next week and looking for something for $50 or less (including shipping if I can) that is unique, fun and will put a smile on her face. She is FUN, a working mom of 3 kids and lives in Cali. Some past gifts from her to me have been flowers, Edible Arrangements, a gift from Hershey's. I have done flowers and a 2 bottle wine set. Looking for any ideas you may have received or given recently that was a big hit. Again, I need to be able to purchase and have it arrive by next Thursday.

THANKS for the great ideas!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I ended up ordering cookies in a b-day box from Mrs. Fields....boring, but it's something ;)

Scan photos of the two of you from growing up and go to Snapfish or Kodak and get a photobook or calendar made and sent directly to her!

How about an experience gift cert? Perhaps a nice meal out someplace or something crazy like a scuba lor ski lesson. Groupon for the area where she lives may have something... Alternatively you could adopt a family in Africa or buy them farm equipment, a cow or a well of fresh water - I think Unicef does this. Very PC but also very worthy....check the web for details! I think you can also buy a tree in the Childrens Eternal Rainforest in Costa Rica and help save the planet....

How about an engraved necklace. You can order online, have it shipped directly to her. I know Things Remembered does that and the smaller businesses too. You could have her kids names put on it or a nickname you always call her. I saw a cool necklace someone had on that was a sterling silver puzzle piece. She said it came in a set of 2 and her bff had the other. They were engraved with each others childhood nicknames.

Look at uncommongoods.com. Not sure if you cand find something for under $50 with shipping but they have some really cool products.

I love scrapbooking so anything that has to do with that would be great. Hallmark sells their premade 12x12 scrapbooks for around $50.

What about a dozen fancy smanchy cupcakes? Call a restaurant and have it deliver a meal (or call and pay for it and have her hubby pick it up).

Hi M.---Since you're from MIchigan, why not send her something made in/from Michigan. My son and his girlfriend got us a great gift from American Spoon several years ago for Christmas, www.spoon.com.

They are located in Petosky and you can find some of their products at Whole Foods. They have great gift pkgs online. We are HUGE fan of their stuff. Just to name a few...mango, cherry, blueberry butters; their spoonable fruits (the tart cherry tastes like the BEST cherry pie), their cherry vinaigrette, mango/habenero salsa...you can't go wrong. Oh...and the Grand Haven peach preserves...drool. I love peaches but seldom buy them as they hardly ever taste good. The peach preserves...to die for.

Check 'em out. You won't be disappointed. D.

Check out http://www.puddinhill.com/ for great edible pecan/candy. It's famous in Texas. Or, you could send her a plant vs. flowers. I sent one to my mom one year and she still has it and it reminds her of me. Does she have a local restaurant or bar she loves -- buy her a tab there and surprise her (get her hubby involved if you can). Or, if you have time - a scrap book of old pics and memories of you both.
