This is questions to my last post. I have had about 7 vaginal ultra sounds, testing from a gastrologist and I was told I didnt have IBS. I have actually went through many doctors, hospitals, and GYN's to try to pin point what was going on with me. Most of them would not help me till I was referred to the GYN I have today. I do feel confident with what he has to say and what he is doing. He wanted me to have a second opinion to make sure he was going in the right direction. He didnt want me to have to go through a hysterectomy and come back 6 months later saying I still have the same pain. He is very well known in his area. I have just been wondering if there was anyone who had basically the same symptoms I had and how it went for them. I feel I do need the hysterectomy after many, many months of testing. My mother had endometriosis and grandmother had uterine cancer. I know I have had a lot of cysts on my ovaries and they were not sure if some of that was coming from my pain on my ovaries. Thank you all for your help. It gives me more questions I can ask my GYN this week when I go in to see him.

What can I do next?

The only comment I wanted to make is that I think it is great that your doctor is suggesting that you get a second opinion. So many doctors are so ready to jump into surgery even if they are not 100 percent sure.

For several years I had a problem and I blamed it to a bowel problem. It got so bad I promised that if I was not taken out by ambulance I would go to a doctor. To make a long story short, I had endometriosis very bad. He took a biopsy and the synptons were bloating so bad that I had two sets of clothes. I couldn't zip slacks etc. I got loose tops to wear. I had a lot of pain and I was lucky IF I felt like a human being for one week out of the month. I had surgery and the endometriosis was packed up all around the bowel and over the fallopian tubes and set up shop there. What a mess I was . He had to take the bowel out and un-kink it and clean it all before he put it back. He took everything because everything was bad. I felt like a new person after. I lost the extra bloat and weight and was normal. I hope this is a help to you . I never felt good and always miserable and in pain.

Hi S., I know exactly what you are going through, I was seeing an obgyn and she put me through a year of that's try this and that, finally I thought enough is enough, I'm the one dealing with the pain, my family had to put up with "sorry, mom is having pain now" "we" couldn't do it anymore!! I also had IBS and endometriosis, I was always having pain on my right side, did lots of testing...eventhough I only had a little endo. it still hurt, I found an obgyn that would do my hysterectomy, 2 yrs later, no pain, no regrets!! Do it for yourself, if you know your done having kids, then do what u think is best! It all seems to tie into eachother in there, things are so close together, my IBS is also gone:)
Just make sure you check out your options on what to take out, some people take everything(I did)then theirs no chance of the endo. coming back on anything, otherwise your back to square one. Also if u have everything taken, you'll br put on some kind of hormones, I do the Climara patch, I'm down to the lowest dose now and on my way to weaning myself off and hoping to stay away from menopause, so far, so good. Just be sure that you don't stay on the highest dose too long, not good for you.
Good luck and hope all goes well for you:)

You didn't list your symptoms, so I'm not sure if mine are the same. I had stabbing pain in my lower abdomin (pelvic region) for years. This pain grew worse over the years, to the point where I would double over. I also had VERY heavy periods. I wore superplus tampons and a pad and had to change at least every hour. My periods would last anywhere from 7 to 30 days.

I had a vaginal hyterectomy last summer. I wound up have fibroids in the muscle around my uterus. I still have my ovaries, so no hormone replacement therapy. I still have pms, just not the period that goes with it. Most importantly I have no pain.

Fibriods can not be diagnosed without removing the uterus.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Have you had a laparotomy to diagnose endo, polyps, or fibroids?
I have had 3 laparoscopic surgeries to remove endo and polyps from my uterus, ovaries and bladder.

If you do have endo, be in mind that if it is on other organs, a hysterectomy may not totally cure the pain.

Check out www.endocenter.org. They have lots of great info on endo and a forum that you can go to and talk to other women who have it and have tried all different kinds of treatments.

Getting a 2nd opinion is always a good choice. I know that I struggled for years to get a hysterectomy because of pain, inconsistant periods and heavy bleeding. You don't mention your age but if you are perimenaposal or in full menapose that a hysterectomy may make you feel a whole lot better. I know that in my instance after abt 3 months I actually started to feel like my old self again. I do struggle with IBS but the pain is nothing like I used to have. Hope you find out what is going on and if you have a history of family female problems I would seek that 2nd opinion right away.
