Hi there,
I'm pretty new to this web site. My question for you all is, how do you know that what you believe is the truth? There are so many different realigions out, and I was wondering if what you believed was the truth.
Please I would like to have as many responses as possible.
Thanks
M.

Google this movie: "Zeitgeist" and watch it. It talks about religion and how it all started. It makes a lot of sense....
It talks about all religions.. It also talks about 9/11 and financial institutions, but the religion part is first if you don't want to see the rest.. Very interesting..

Read the book "Dinner With A Perfect Stranger". You can find it at any book store in the spiritual/religious section. It will answer your questions in a really neat way!

Loaded question! You are right in seeking the Truth as the Truth is what is. I like to believe I am 24, but the truth is I am 28. What is, is that I am 28 years old.
I am a Christian. I choose God to be Lord of my life. Anything else would lead to nothing in the end. I believe that God is who created us, so God is the reason for our existance, so God is the one to seek and serve and build relationship with. Looking at the world around us, the detail and creativity and balance, only God could do that. It's beyond our comprehension and in our material world, something could not come from nothing. In many ways, God is beyond our comprehension, understandably since God is much bigger than us having created us.
I believe that the Bible is God's word and nothing is to be added or taken from it. Many religions add to the Bible, creating inconsistencies/contradictions. I believe that God created us to glorify Himself as we are created in His image and we are His creation. He longs for us to want a relationship with Him, yet gives us the freedom to turn our backs.
A great book that articulates it well is Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis which is a pretty quick read.
I just wrote a long response a bit ago, but with not being so great with the computer, I lost it when looking to see where you were located, if nearby. :)
Keep going for the truth as the truth is what is! :) I hope this shortened version of what I wrote helps!!

rather than trying to understand a religion, seek to understand God's Word by reading the book He wrote, the bible. how you come to learn the truth is by what God reveals to you. he reveals truths to you when you spend quiet time with Him and grow to know him by reading the bible. your husband's love for his creator is what sustains him and gives him the capacity to be a loving husband and father. best to you in seeking the truth!

I was raised Pentecostal as a child and that was a religion. As I became older and started exploring GOD and established a deep spiritual relationship with him, I found the truth. However, I wouldn't have found GOD or the truth about life if I didn't go through devastating trials early in life which help shape me into the person I am today. I can tell you that GOD is REAL. That's my personal opinion and others might disagree but its up to you to decide and make the decision to find your path in life and begin that journey. No one else can do it for you. I have felt him, he has spoken to me in various ways and answered me. Although, I still consider my part of a religious body, it doesn't define me. GOD defines who I am because he is everything and lives within me. Once you find GOD, you will find the truth, you will find peace, joy and happiness within your heart.

May God Bless You on your journey,

I don't go by any long list of rules or doctrines to determine if what I believe is the truth. I do not wish to knock down anyone who does. It is personal choice, bottom line. I am Wiccan, and despite the bad rap that has, it is truly a loving and positive spiritual life experience. It's main idea is that you HARM NO ONE. How I know what is truth is what I feel in the deepest parts of my soul. To see, feel, and experience good in all it's forms is what is right for me. I do not mean what always feels good. I believe in God, just in a different way. And even the bible says that God goes by a thousand names (as I used to study it a lil to try to connect with my ex husband while I was with him). But I do not turn away from other religions as if they were lepers, for many things can be learned from other faiths and beliefs. I believe that it is ALL truth, just having taken different forms.

And who is to say that they are all not truths? I have my own beliefs on that. Just as everyone else does. I think that's what makes it best of all. Isn't it our differences that usually make us stand out and be who we are instead of mindless, dull, clone robots.

I am a Christian. At first I just went along with my beliefs becasue that's how I was raised. But as I got older I made my own decisions about God. I am still a christian, a conservative in many ways, and I don't just go along with it, I KNOW why I am. I can feel and see God in my life and that's why salvation is the only real way. If you have any questions you can e-mail me!

With there being so many beliefs out there, I don't think it's a matter of which one is "right" and which is "wrong". I believe it all depends on you as an individual. My faith and my religion is right for me. To me it's the truth because of the evidence I have seen in my life. True, I would like to see everyone believe as I do because it has given me clarity and peace and I wish that for everyone. If you are looking for a faith I suggest you study all you can about each religion that's out there, that way you get a good understanding and can make the best choice for yourself. Also take in account your husband's faith. Sometimes having two separate faiths can cause troubles.

Good luck and by the way I am Christian, if that makes any difference.

Hot Topic Question. Probably why you've not gotten alot of responses.

My answer to this is that no one actually knows what the full "truth" is until they are supposed to. So, in the meantime, man has created their own personal truth - people do what "works" for them - that's why people pick and choose things out of certain religions as it is.

There are too many religions in the world and its no one's place to say whether one is right or wrong. Because really? No one on this planet right now knows for sure what's the "truth".

I believe everyone should respect each other's beliefs. If you believe in Jesus, great. Or if you believe in Allah, great. Or, if you are an athiest, great. The general concept of all religions/beliefs/stances comes down to how you live your life and treat other people (in my opinion).

I am of the opinion that there is some sort of Creator. But who or what it is, I don't know - and I'll find out when I'm supposed to find out.

In the meantime, I live my life as a good person. Try not to judge, and treat people like I want to be treated.

So 12 years of Catholic Schooling, 4 years of Christian College, and what I am is Agnostic.

And I believe that to be my own personal truth.

In our religion "what's true for you is true for you." So if it works for you, it's true. If it doesn't, throw it out the window!

So truth is what is true for YOU. And that is what you should seek.

Hi M.,
Religion now a days is a very conveluted subject. I am catholic by religion. I believe in God and His works. I follow His word. In college I did the turn away from faith thing and I regretted it in my Senior year. During my senior year at college I took several courses on comparative religions. WOW, what a difference and what similarities in A LOT of religions. It seems that a lot of religions out there broke from the catholic church because they didn't like one particular rule or the other. One of my good friends is a J.w. and at first she thought that their bible was soooo different. Then she came over for a bible reading and found out that they weren't different. She is still a JW and I am still Catholic. We are joined by the fact that we are both Christians and believe in one God....it is the same God that is loving, kind, etc.
So basically, go with what you want. Like I said I am of Catholic faith....I am NOT a bible beater, I do not condem those who are, I just don't go about religion by the literal sense of the word. It is the belief that keeps me and my family happy, safe and content.

I am a plain Christian. My church follows the Bible and does not make "rules". I used to be Catholic but I do not agree with that religion anymore. It doesn't say you have to confess your sins to a man in a room but to Jesus himself only. Good luck on your quest!

Through faith. That's how I know what I believe is correct. You need to make your own personal journey to the cross. Once you start your journey, God will take you to the Truth.

M.,

Your question caused a great discussion in our house. It comes down to this for us. It is your faith that is the truth. The truth is what you believe and what you have faith in; that is the truth to you.

God Bless and good luck in your search for your truth.

We are methodists. I was born and raised in the church, but after high school I just chose not to go to church anymore. I went through some very difficult years in my early 20's, and then after much thought decided that eventually I wanted my young daughter to be confirmed the way I was so I figured we had better get back to church. She was in 1st grade at the time. Although I always "believed" I only started back to church so she would go to Sunday school. That lasted about 6 months, and suddenly I realized we were going to church because I wanted to be there! That is when my believing, my relationship with God really began. I think for each person it is different, but for me the feeling I have in church now is totally different than it was when I was forced to go as a child, or when I was "forced" to go as an adult.

My faith is real because I feel it now, I really cannot think of any better way to describe it.
