How Do You Get Your Tablecloth to NOT Slip and Slide?

I'd like to get your tricks for helping the tablecloth to stay on the table. I am using the cloth ones that do not have a rubber backing, and I do not want to use that rubbermaid stuff that helps stuff to stick, because it is thick and is has a bumpy appearance so I don't want that to show through the tablecloth. So how do you do it?

What can I do next?

Just put something on the table, a centerpiece, plant, flower arrangement, etc.anything heavy enough to hold it down.
Right now (on my table) that includes a pretty ceramic bowl filled with mini squash and pumpkins, and two large, heavy and lovely candles :)

I have a vinyl table cloth liner under ours. The kind with a felt backing. It keeps it from sliding and adds a bit of kid proofing to our table.

The vinyl liner underneath as was suggested below, or the hanging table weights that clip on to the side of the fabric where it hangs down.

I use a pretty clip, the kind for clipping bags shut, on each corner. Mine are four different colors and in the shape of a butterfly. I simply fold the edge over on one side and clip. You can also do a pleated fold, but I found it easier for my son to just fold it over if he accidently knocks the clip off. He is able to fix it himself with just the simple fold. I think the pleated fold looks nicer, so you could do that for when you have guests, and go simple when you don't. If you can't find large enough clips, you could try using clothspins or large safety pins and decorate them yourself. Hairclips might also work. The clips keep our table cloth from slipping even with my son sometimes pulling on the bottom of the table cloth while eating his meals.

I use a tablecloth pad. It has a smooth, impermeable upper surface and is a bit padded to it protects the table. Have never had a problem with a tablecloth sliding.

I usually clunk a heavy table runner and centerpiece on the table, which helps to hold it in place.

But, as my proper mother would advise, no table cloth is complete without a table pad. Similar to a mattress pad. And they are useful. They'll prevent your table from getting marred from heavy items, they'll keep liquids from soaking through, and the better ones have heat protection so if a too-hot pan accidently gets set down your table is protected.

I would think your center piece would do it. Interested in seeing what others say. Great question.

I have used the non-slide mats - I cut squares and put them where plates would be or at the center under the center piece and they hold well.

You can find a roll of it at Target and Wal-Mart.
