How Do You Advertise

I have a cleaning/janitorial service, but not sure how to advertise. What do you other mom-owned businesses do? I've seen so many ads in the paper that I am not sure if this is the way to go. Are there industry papers/magazines? Your comments are appreciated.

What can I do next?

Great responses. Thanks to all of you for your advice as I am implementing most of them.

Thanks again - L.

Hi L.,

Try craigslist.com under the services/household category.
It's free so you can't beat that.

Good luck to you.

Get funky and have fun! Take yourself to the actual business you are wanting to woo and offer a one time free cleaning so they can see the quality of work that you do. Tell them that you can beat the price of their current cleaners by 10%, and offer some sort of contract deal.

For residential... (or even commercial), make a video of you cleaning and put it up on a blog / YouTube. This will set you apart from the other people in your industry. Make sure you edit your video to make it quicker - and possibly like it is a silent film from yesteryear. That will make it funny!

On your blog - offer cleaning tips. Make sure you use targeted keywords to get people from your target area to see your blog.

Leave a business card with ALL your info on it EVERYWHERE! Remember to market to the emotions of your clients (especially for residental clients). You are going to have to address the lack of money in America today, and why they should pay you to clean for them.

Good luck!

I'd like to invite you to my business networking group - we are part of BNI - Business Networking International. I've been a member of our Park Cities Group for 4 years. This is a great way to "advertise" and get the word out about your business. We meet every Tuesday from 11:30 - 1:00 at City Cafe located at the intersection of the Toll Road and Lover's Lane. If you'd like to call me I can tell you more about our group - you can also check it out at www.bnidfw.com

My husband works for an ad agency -- and he said ads in paper usually don't pay off unless you commit long term. He said you would probably be better off with a direct mail campaigne. His company is a full service marketing firm. If you need help with that -- let me know and I will give you his contact info.
