Ok so I feel like I am addicted to chocolate!!! I could eat it all day if I could. If I get stressed I can eat a candy bar and feel so much better! If I go a day with none I get a migraine. Does anyone know how I can get off this habit??!!! It is driving me crazy! And my husband of course haha.

A chocolate craving is often a symptom of a magnesium deficiency. Metegenics makes a great magnesium/calcium supplement. I used to have chocolate cravings too! The magnesium also helps with my migrains.
You can google Metagenics and find a number of websites that sell that brand, or you can get it at many chiropractors.
Good luck!

A., you can certainly become addicted to sugar (not like a drug but you need to get back on track). Excess sugar is terrible for you. It can cause all kinds of health issues over time and some immediate problems. Adult onset diabetes is a big one you want to avoid. I've struggled with the same thing on and off myself. I always run to chocolate as well. Other sugars don't make me feel satisfied like chocolate does. I agree with the others about eating dark chocolate instead. However, if you are anything like me, you can't have it in the house or you won't stop. I have been struggling with my sugar intake badly over the last 3 weeks. I finally decided I needed to take control again. Drink water!!! If you want chocolate really badly, force a large glass of water down you and then chew a piece of peppermint gum. Dehydration definitely causes feelings of hunger and intense cravings. Sugar is my craving of choice too! Try it today. Force water all day long. Measure out your water this morning and make sure you finish it (at least 64 oz). Try to drink most of it before 4 pm today or you might have to get up to use the restroom overnight. You don't want to disrupt your sleep because that doesn't help the cravings. Good luck to you!

Anne Marie is exactly right: a chocolate craving is a sign of a magnesium deficiency. There's a great product called Natural Calm that is an excellent source of magnesium. (As with many nutrients, some forms are more bioavailable than others.) I make a lemonade-like drink with the Natural Calm, dissolving it in just a bit of hot water, then filling up the cup with ice and cold water. It's yummy and will help you sleep better, too!

Also, sweet cravings in general (and often hunger) are a sign of dehydration. Try drinking a big glass of water and see if that helps curb it.

You might try drinking lemonade when you have a craving for something sweet like chocolate. It is supposed to help quench your need without all of the calories.

Being a chocoholic I would say why fight it. You are getting your headache because of withdrawal. I am certainly the wrong person to respond. If you truly want to give it up you will have to suffer withdrawal symptoms for a while. Good luck I think?

Have you tried the dark chocolate? There are so many healthy benefits to eating it and it is so rich that one bite is enough! Good luck from one chocoholic to another!

if your craving chocolate grab some almonds. they have a same ingredient that is supposidly one you are craving. i suggest that you cut back on chocolate so you dont get that headache or if you go cold trukey dont eat chocolate again for a few weeks. stick to the almonds so your body can get use to the lack of chocolate, caffeine, sugar. good luck.* perhaps the almonds had magnesium in them...i truly cant remember what the connection was.

They say that scented candles that smell like food or vanilla will help with cravings. You could try that.

Sugar and Chocolate are definitely addictive. And Migraines are a symptom of withdrawl. I went through that withdrawl when I gave up Caffeine. The way that I cut back on chocolate and all sweets is to not have it in the house, then when I go somewhere that has it, I may treat myself, but I know I am limited because I won't have as much, where if it's at home an open package of anything chocolate ends up an empty package in a remarkably short time! That's my trick! How I keep it down to a minimum. giving it up completely is much harder. Imagine telling yourself that you will never have chocolate again? I can't do it, although I know a lot of people who do. I will say this.. even a little chocolate will cause cravings for more, but if it's not in the house, you probably won't make a special trip to the store for it. When you are at a friends house, and she offers you a piece of chocolate, take it then, don't bring any of it home even if she offers! Best of luck!

You don't. You just eat in moderation. I am a chocolate lover also and I found that by eating dark chocolate it cures the craving with less. It also has less fat and is better for you. Dark chocolate also has something in it that stimulates the feel good part of the brain. Good luck!

I don't know what kind of chocolate you prefer but how about switching to a dark more bitter chocolate and just having a piece or two daily. Then maybe wean yourself down to only one piece and then hopefully like every other day and then only sporadically when you are out at a nice dinner etc. If you can handle it a little dark chocolate is considered healthy. I think it has to be the kind that that has 70% cocoa to have the anti-oxidant value. If you don't mind artificial sweetner, Dove makes a sugar free dark chocolate that is good, a little bit bitter and you just can't overeat it because it can make your tummy crazy it you do. I got some bc I was having a craving and I didn't have any trouble not overeating it and I love sweets of all kinds. But I think dark chocolate in general is just better because it is more bitter. Anyway I wish all the best!!

Check your nutrition, especially magnesium. Believe it or not cravings often happen when one is chemically out of balance ~ needs specific vitamins, minerals, enzymes, etc.
