Hi:

I am dating a wonderful man, who is not the father of my son. We will be visiting his parents soon, they live out of town. I have not met them yet, so it will be the first time we meet. We will be staying with them for most of our stay.

I plan on using a nice basket with a bottle of local wine, coffee table book about where we live, homemade cookies/bread, hand crafted kitchen towels from a local vendor. ( I've checked and they do drink wine)

After our trip I plan on sending them a thank you card with a framed picture of us on our vacation there.

Is this appropriate?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for everyone's feedback!
I'm sure I'm over thinking it. They have been nothing but so welcoming of my son and I and I want to make sure I express the same.

First and foremost I would make sure that they drink wine (or alcohol at all) .Otherwise it is a very nice gift indeed.

This is completely appropriate and what a wonderful idea! If they don't like the basket you can bring it back to me hahaha They will love it. It's a great first impression and also a nice little ice breaker. If the trip goes great then by all means send them a framed picture of your visit with a thank you card. If it doesn't go as expected, still send them a thank you card to show your gratitude.

Sounds very appropriate. Make sure the wine you choose is their favorite (my dad likes a cabernet, I prefer a chardonnay or a reisling). If you show up with their favorite, they'll know that you went even an EXTRA extra mile to show them you care about them (and their son).

I think it a very nice gesture. First impressions are everything and this says you are considerate and classy. Lot's of luck and all the best to you and your son in this new relationship.
