Highrise Sliding Windows

I live on the 29th Floor of a highrise. My windows open left to right and have no screen or bars. I asked my super and he does not appear to know where to get the "sliding window stops". They are metal pieces screwed into the slide so that window can only open a few inches. I've seen these in other apartments, but I don't know where people are getting them. Any help much appreciated!

What can I do next?

I'm pretty sure that these are required in apartments with windows...we had to get them put in (and our super approached us about them.) Are you in NYC? Maybe call 311?

Hello,

I also live high up in a high rise building and my landlord supplies the stoppers. It's a law!!! Every year we fill out requests and information about the stoppers. You should tell your landlord that he is responsible to supply the stoppers. Have him call any management office of a high rise building and ask for the information. I'm sure he can get it at a home depot or lowes. Good Luck!!! Accidents happen so it's important you are thinking about these stoppers now. You are a good Mom!!!

If you are in New York City, window guards, regardless of the type of windows, are the law in apartments with children under 10 years old. Your super is just too flippin' lazy or can't be bothered to find the right kind of window guards, and if, God forbid, something were to happen to your child, he'd be liable. You should point this out to him and then see what he says! I bet you'll get your window guards/stoppers pretty darn quick! How long has he been the super in this building, anyway? If other people have these guards, who installed them? Sounds to me like he just doesn't want to be arsed to do his job for you!

Under the law, you also don't have to do this at your own expense. Get on the horn to 311 and/or your landlord/management company and give 'em hell. Report the super and the landlord to the city. And keep harrassing them until they get off their butts and get you what you are entitled to under the law!!
