Hemoglobin Level at 36 Weeks Pregnant?

I am 36 weeks pregnant (3 more weeks to go - hurray!!!) and my hemoglobin level is 11.4. At the 28 weeks appointment it was 10.3, then 11.1 at 32 wks, and my doctor advised me to continue taking the iron pills until the end of the pregnancy. I was anemic with my first baby and took the iron pills until I gave birth, but they never told me the hgb levels so I am just wondering whether these levels are ok. My ObGyn says I am on the right track and having 3 more weeks until I have my C-section gives me hope my hgb level can increase close to 12, but just wondering whether anybody out there may have had same issue during pregnancy. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I do not feel tired, just anxious about almost anything!
I am sorry I sounded as questioning my doctor, just wanted to see whether anybody out there had similar experience. I am sure the levels will improve after another 3 weeks of taking iron pills.

Your good at that level. Take the pills for the remainder of pregnancy. That is not a bad number.

I just got access to my prenatal records...on my last pregnancy...my levels were a 11 even--the lab results marked it as LOW...But when I questioned my OB while pregnant she said I was fine....She didn't even recommend I take any iron supplements. Well i couldn't because any pill I took that pregnancy made me horribly ill LOL! Sounds like your perfectly fine. Congrats on almost being done :)

Your levels are fine. As long as you are at 11, you are fine.

to donate blood you need a hgb of 12.5 .. at about 9 they think about giving you a transfusion. at 11 you are ok.. but definitely take your iron and eat some spinach and maybe some red meat..

I guess I'm wondering why you are questioning your doctor about continuing taking the iron pills. That doesn't make sense to me.

Take the iron pills.
