Help with Leaf Cleanup

Hello, I am looking for someone to help us with our leaves. I have gotten two quotes so far from Strawberry Hill and Twin Brook and both a pretty expensive (in my opinion). One quoted $300/hr. and said it would take 2-3 hrs. The other quoted $500 a pick-up and thought we would need two pick-ups. We need someone who can take the leaves away as we have no way to get the leaves to the dump. So, if anyone has a suggestion on who I might call for leaf pick-up and take away that would be less costly than this I would appreciate it. I live in Wellesley, MA. Thanks

What can I do next?

Try a local hauler he does hauling and cleanouts too. Attics, basements and garages cleaned out, or one item and appliance removal. He gives free quotes and is very reliable and honest. He does a lot of work for seniors.
He has a leaf vac and they are pretty flexible for timing and has plenty of equipment and help. He'll even let you rake the leaves to the curb and he'll suck them up!! Good value if you dont mind doing some of the work!
His name is Shawn -###-###-####- GREAT GUY!!

Hi L.,

I am an architect and construction supervisor living in Newton Centre. I do a lot of work with
a contractor who has substantially lower rates than most landscapers. As a result, he has picked up a lot of general maintenance and plowing work. If the pick-up doesn't require more than a standard pickup truck (ie. big truck) then I am positive we can provide the surface substantially cheaper than what you've been quoted. Finally, I am part of a group in Newtonville that is anti leaf-blower (for noise reasons) and is trying to get people to collect leaves the old-fashioned way.

Thanks,

Andrew

I would suggest putting up a flyer at the local high schools advertising $20 or $30/hour to clean up the leaves. Or, you could offer a flat rate to get the job done if you think they'll loaf on the job to stretch out the time (If you're hanging around they probably won't.) Say that you'll provide the equipment (leaf blower or rakes) and transportation to the dump to get rid of the leaves. That seems like pretty good money to me for a high school kid. If you throw in lunch and snacks, I bet you'll have some takers. I'd give it a try anyway!

Good luck.

We lucked out this summer. Our hairdresser was a team leader for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event. To raise money, she enlisted a group of high school students who would come and do yard work for $60/hr. With a team of five, they got all the mulch spread, and my husband paid extra to have them come back after lunch and do more yard work! It was a win-win-win situation: the kids got their community service hours which is a graduation requirement, the Cancer Society got much-needed funding, and we got our yard work done! Perhaps there is a similar cause in your town? It was a terrific fundraiser, although maybe not completely what you were thinking of, but good enough to mention in case any of you other Moms are ever in a position to repeat it in your own communities for the causes you support.

Hi - Not sure I will be a help, but we are in Needham, and were just quoted $500 for fall cleanup from our landscaper. (Somar Landscaping). I too thought that was expensive, and we opted out.

Our neighbor suggested going to the Youth Commission in town and seeing if a teen wanted some money and was willing to do yard work. I also thought I might be able to find something on Craigslist, but haven't tried yet.

If you find someone, let me know!
