i am have 10 month old son, who has been doing very well with solids, and only drinks about 24-32 ounces of formula a day, he is on the enamil prosobee lipil, i have noticed that they came out with the "next step" i was wondering if anyone had any insight on it. he will be ready to switch to milk at a year, he has no obvious problems with dairy, more of a reflux problem. the next step is said to be for babies over 9 months and is somehwat cheaper.....just wondered if anyone had any thoughts?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks for the advice ladies, we havent made the switch yet, when he is a year we will switch right to milk, but as soon as his current formula is gone will switch to the next step in the mean time. it is a little cheaper and barely different!

I would ask your son's Dr. what he/she thinks before you make a change like that. We didn't use it with our first two children and I know that we wont use it for the future children. I don't see it as anything more than a way for the formula makers to make more money. My three year old goes through phases, sometimes she eats all day long and sometimes it's painful to get her to take two bites. She is perfectly healthy and she's in the middle (I hope) of one of her I don't want to eat phases.

24 oz is perfectly normal at this age. at 11 months you should begin switching him over to milk. You start at week 1 by using 3/4 formula, 1/4 milk. The following week it is half and half. the next 1/4 formula, 3/4 milk and finally at 1 year all milk. formula gets cheaper itself by not having to buy as much.

My response isn't really about the formula. My son also suffers from reflux. Do you have your son on any medication for it? My sons doctor kept on saying his spitting up was normal (he was spitting up about 3-5 times after every single bottle) until one of the nurse practioners witnessed it and said he has reflux. He is now on medication and only spits up maybe 1 time a day. Good luck with it because it can be so h*** o* the baby and you. I am told they evetually should outgrow it.

Hi K.!
I have a little girl who is now 13 months old. When she was very small she developed a problem with reflux as well- it was awful. Her pediatrician moved her from formula to whole milk at six months along with baby food. Once she was off the formula we had a much better time. And let me tell you- we saved a ton of money buying milk as apposed to formula! As i'm sure you know too- don't lay him flat after a bottle, keep his head up a little bit and he wont be as apt to reflux. Once he starts walking and spending a lot of time upright- the problem tends to ease up.
Good Luck!!

Hi K.,
My son is 10 months old and I just switched him over to the stage 2 formula. I asked my Dr. and they said its for older babies 9 months and up that are drinking less Formula and eating more solids. My son only has about 24 ounces of Formula per day so I switched him over. He didnt seem to notice! Landon also has acid reflux so I was nervous about switching his formula but he didnt have any adverse reaction.

Hi K.
I used next step with my daughter. I breast feed my daughter for the first year and supplimented with prosobee lipil. After I weaned her I switched to next step. I wound up using it until she was 2.5, she's a picky eater so I figured along as she drinks it why not. We eventually didn't use it as much and it kind of got phased out her diet with regular milk. I personally thought it was a excellent product.Hope this was of some help.

Hi K.,
My daughter was on the enfamil prosobee lipil because she was colicky. It helped sooo much : ) I was concerned once she turned a year how the transition was going to be and I did buy the Next step and probably got thru one canister and decided that we were going to try to just transition her right to the milk. The doctor suggested to try her on the milk and see how she did. So what we did was half formula and half milk and she transitioned wonderfully. I also tried giving her yo baby yogurt too and she did great with that so I knew that she would do great with the milk since the yogurt is made with whole milk !!! My daughter is now 16 months old and doing great on whole milk. I would definitely consult with your sons doctor and see what they suggest. Good luck with everything and let me know how things go!! Take care !!!
