Howdy Mommas.
This may seem weird or too cheap on my behalf LOL..to ask for your help to save my nebulizer machine. When I start the machine and my mask on..it just overpowers you with this DUST smell!!! ARRGGHH!! I need my treatments bad enough lately that I just "suck it up" and try to ignore it. But- I may be causing myself more harm then good.
You see- It was "freecycled" to me by a person with I am sure good intentions.

HOW DO I RID THE DUST SMELL..FROM THE MACHINE??? All the plastic tubing's and fittings are properly sanitized and frequently replaced before needed. These and the medications are kept in a plastic zipper storage bag separate from the machine when not in frequent use. I have not covered the machine. I had an older style before and this was not needed and unknown to me..til now. OR Do I just need to chuck it in the trash and move on?
I see no filters or parts to be cleaned -like on an oxygen concentrator or like the parts on a fan.
Thanks for any help in advance. I have not been able to get an answer positively on my search on the web.

Most nebulizers do have a small filter on them. I've been told it needs to be replaced 1-2X a year. A medical supply store can tell you what the smell is coming from. Replacement parts should be quite inexpensive.

Can you take it to one of the medical equipment supply places that rents and sells stuff? Maybe they can examine it and evaluate your problem. More than likely, though, they will probably find that a new machine can deliver your (expensive) meds more efficiently, comfortably and reliably. Good luck in your quest. D.

Dust and breathing treatments is not a good combination! For your own sake, I'd just get rid of it and get a new one that you know will be sanitary and safe for you to use. You're insurance might even pay for it or help at least. I'd talk to your local pharmacist about it. Good luck!

You might have to call the manufacturer. We haven't had to clean ours yet for my 5 year old.

Howdy S..

I would check for someone in your area who services medical machines, so that you also have the peace of mind that it is cleaned professionally.

Jen

Find out how much from your insurance it will cost to replace it. My nebulizer has a expire date of 2002 on it (b/c the company wants you to replace it every year...for the insurance money!). This was a hand me down, and to keep your new one clean, keep in in the box or a grocery bag when you are not using it.

Hi Samanth,
Do you know where you got your machine? Call them and tell them the probllem. They should be able to help. Or call a medical supply store, they should be able to help.
Good luck,

Check your filter & see if it needs replaced theya re so small they get dusty quik.. If not take it out geta can of air & blow it in the area where the filter goes.. My daughter's does this & once I do that it usually doesn't have that smell she says.. Also replace your tube if it has been sitting.. You can also start it let it run for about 2/3min then hook up your med & mask..
