my 13 mo old is getting a lot of teeth all at once. i read that there should not be bleeding, but she is bleeding a little bit. i'm wondering if i should be getting her to see a pediatric dentist, or if this is in fact normal. it's not a lot of blood, if she is sucking on a stuffed animal, you might see a little pink... thanks for your response!

I would guess this is normal. I think my girls have each had that happen to them. As long as it's not a lot of blood and only lasts a day maybe 2 while she it teething, it should be ok. She might just have sensitive gums. And my oldest didn't go to the dentist until she was 3. Our pediatric dentist actually recommend age 2. Since she said the first visits when they are 12 and 18 months are just to get them use to the office and on the second visit they do fluoride. So I wouldn't stress about the dentist until then.

I have a 15 mo old son and every time he gets a tooth his gums look bruised and they bleed a little. After the tooth comes in it goes away and he hasnt had any problems since. I dont know if it is normal or not, but just wanted to let you know that it happened to us too.

Hey K.,

I don't know the cause of your daughter's problem but I saw her age and wanted to let you know, only because most people don't know.... your child should see a dentist at 1 year of age and every six months after that. So yes, please get with a pedes dentist and then if you have questions they can always help.

Best Wishes,
-MB

I'm a bit more relaxed when it comes to dental visits. I have three children and the earliest any of them went to the dentist was 3 years. NONE of them have cavities and the dentist always compliments their teeth. He says they are shiny like glass and to keep up whatever we are doing. All three of them go every six months and have good dental hygene. If there had been a problem, I would have taken them sooner. The way my children were introduced to the dentist, they love to go and none of them have fears of the dentist. It's been a while, but I vaguely remember when teeth were erupting, that there might have been a tinge of blood. Some of my friends had children that would teeth vigorously and have a bloody blanket or teether - not a lot of blood, but enough to notice. If you are really concerned, call a pediatric dentist and ask if it is normal. Remember, teeth are popping through the gums. I actually have my wisdom teeth and I remember the PAIN when they came in (I was in high school).

Go to A dentist at once , there is a problem of some kind for her teeth to be bleeding. And the sooner it is catch the better. It is probably something small but if she had a cut finger and it kept bleeding all the time would you not take her to the Dr some thing.
