Help!! Fruit Flies - Carpentersville,IL

I NO!!! I have had the same Problem!!! Last week I was talking to my best friend. She is great, she has a solution for everything. Her grandma told her to put a 1/2 of cup of straight PINE SOL (original) on top of the frig (so the kiddos don't get it). and they will go into it and DYE.
Well I tried it...... And the next morning I kid you not there had to be at least 30 of those damn things in there!!! Within 3 days they were all gone. YAAAYYYY. This also works for Wasps and Bees

I accidentally left a glass of orange juice sitting out on the counter one night and found three dead fruit flies in there the next morning. I had them again a few weeks ago and remembered the orange juice. Yep, caught SEVEN fruit flies in a glass of orange juice. Good luck!

I never tried Pine Sol, but cheap wine works really great too. Pour some into small jars with narrow necks....coke bottles work great and leave the rest in the wine bottle. Leave them open (where kids can't get them, obviously). They fly in but they can't get back out.
Or they get drunk and drown, not really sure, but it does work.

You have to remove all sources of water too. Don't leave a sponge on the sink, they'll breed in that too!

Clean under that black rubbery thingy in the drain of your garbage disposal.

Another good way to get rid of them is a mason jar of apple cider vinager and a couple of squirts of dawn or any dishsoap. It worked great for me! They like the smell and they get stuck to the soap and drown. :)

also, a little wine, beer, vinegar in a shallow bowl with saran wrap with a fairly large hole poked in the middle. Funny thing, I accidentally brought in an entire fruitfly colony with a freshly transplanted houseplant! It was driving me insane. I tried what I've mentioned-it worked ok, but I still had them. Then all the ladybugs came in the house for winter. I like ladybugs, and have many in my house-funny thing, I never saw another fruitfly after that!

I had the same thing happen. I put out several shallow bowl around the kitchen, some with leftover red wine and some with apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dishwashing liquid mixed in. You can set them out like that, or cover them with saran wrap, holding it in place with a rubber band. Then poke several small holes on the top of the saran wrap and they will be attracted to the smell and drown, the saran wrapped ones let them in but they can't find their way out . Good luck!

You already have some good ideas. What my wife and I have done to get rid of the immediate problem is to get our vacuum out and vacuum them up with the hose.

My friend puts Apple Cider Vinegar in plastic lids from a coffee can around in her kitchen and the flies flock to it and die. She just puts about a teaspoon in each upturned lid. There are maybe 2-3 of them in her kitchen when the flies get bad in summer.

We had a bad attack at our office once and someone suggested a small cup with vinegar covered with plastic wrap and a rubber band. Poke a couple of holes in the top for them to fly in and then they get trapped inside. It worked pretty well. Also, make sure there is no food remnants of any sort in your garbage they could be attracted to.

I used to try different things to "trap" them, and in the end I now have found it much easier and better to simply clean, clean, clean... you can't have a CRUMB out ANYWHERE! Put all dry foods in zip lock bags, put all other food in the fridge, and scrub every counter, cabinet, sink, and drain. It may sound like a lot of work, but they'll be gone within hours.

Use one of those sticky fly strips, you can find them at walmart. You unwind a long piece of sticky tape and hang it near something that attacts them, like a glas of wine or apple cider vinegar. Soon, the strip will be covered in them and you can toss it. It works!
