Hi moms.
My kitchen has suddenly been taken over by ants. Floors... Counters... I need to get rid of them before they get into the cupboards and the pantry. How do I safely get rid of them? I have a newborn and a 2 year old that touches everything and puts everything in his mouth. So I don't want to use chemicals. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Got to the store(grocery/hardware) and pick up some ant baits by Terro. You can put them out of reach close to the ant trail. It may take a few days up to a week but it's the only stuff that works. Don't waste you money on anything else. They will all be drawn to the bait like critters in the Serengeti during a drought!

Try spraying vinegar around the doors way and windows and where you see them going. They've found the food and they'll keep coming back till you get rid of the trail they are following. Vinegar will get rid of the sent trail. Also get the bait traps that attracts them. They take the bate and carry it back to their nest and it kills them. Since you have little ones just put them up high where they won't get.

I had ants a couple of times too. You can usually see where they come from if you follow their ant path. If they come through a crack in the window seal, for example, you may be able to just seal the point of entry.
I usually did that and also sprayed the area of entry with a natural ant repellent. Some of them are save to use around food and children because they are just a smell that the ants don't like. Read the label. There are also some home remedies that you can try. I'm sure you'll find something when you search the internet.

Grants Ant Bait. Works like a charm and they take the stuff down into the nests to the source so those get killed, too.

I had the same problem and actually posted it here, too. I got a lot of responses and I was told that cinnamon works. Just regular cinnamon... not the kind you buy at the store with sugar in it. Good luck!

I agree with the vinegar. While it's temporary it does the trick. I usually leave a paper towel soaked in vinegar where you see them entering/exiting.
