Head Injury

My daughter, 18 month, slipped on water and fell backwards so she couldn't break her fall, and cracked her head pretty h*** o* the ground. There is a goose egg and We are monitoring her very closely and understand much more about head trauma than we'd ever knew before having children. My question is this. I am against CT scans. Many people understand why and I won't get into the facts here, but I'm wondering if anyone has done an MRI with a child this young? Did they need sedation? Hopefully, the next 12 hours will show that we were lucky, but I'm ready if I feel there is anything out of sorts with her to get her to Children's. Any others where kids hit their heads hard and were found to be okay? I really need some support here. It's 4:44 a.m and as you can see, I can't sleep a wink.

What can I do next?

Hi M.:

I would not waste another minute. Please take her to the ER. My son was two years old when he bumped his head after he fell off the couch at home while playing with his cousin. It was not a big gap between the floor and couch but I took him anyway because he said his head was hurting and he was crying for a minute. The doctor did a head scan (can't remember the name) and found out he was fine. He told me to keep giving him Children's MOTRIN for the next 2-3 days and he should be back to normal.

Just be pray to GOd and belive it will be alright. My daughter had two 15 long staricase fall ( Yes it happenned twice). Then three great goose bumps. She had her nose and mouth running in two instances but head was fine.

She is smart and we faced no issues whatsoever. Keep your fingers crossed and monitor her very closely to upto around a week.

I'll keeo her in our prayers. She will be your healthy angel.

If you haven't already, call her pediatrician or take her to the ER. I know it's better for the injury to come out as a bump rather than stay in the head, but she should be examined by a doctor.

Definately call your doctor. Our 5 yr. old threw a temper tantrum a few mos. back at the mall when my back was to him and hit his head on the cement floor. He got a huge egg. The doctor said just watch him/motrin. The egg took weeks to go away. But she never needed him to have any testing or to see him because his behaviors were normal. I was a nervous wreck "thinking" about what could go wrong. I just had to stop and pray. I hope your daughter will be fine!

My son had a CT around 12 months. They did give him something to make him sleepy so he would not move around. He has a bleeding disorder so it was necessary. I am also against scan unless they are necessary. He also had xrays and MRI to check his joints around 13 or 14 months. Again they gave him something to make him a little sleepy--I believe both times it was a liquid since they did not need him out cold or anything. If she seems dizzy (hard to tell, I know) or seems to move her joints funny, then I would take her in. You have to be cautious no matter what but where she hit her head is also important. Believe me, my d hits her head all the time. All my kids were little daredevils at this age.
