Has anyone used a pressure washer to make snow? I grew up in Northern Ohio (right on the lake!) and we always had snow. I gave birth to my first child while still in Ohio and she's seen snow, but she was really little. (She was 2 the last time she saw snow.) My other three children have only seen snow on the TV. I'd like for my babies to see snow. (I have to admit, I'm being a little selfish...cause I want to see the look on their faces when they build a snowman, or have a snowball fight...the child-like wonder of it all.)
Well, it's pretty cold out (25 with a wind chill of 12!) and from everything I've seen we're in the perfect range for making snow. I've found the plans to do it, but I'm a little nervous because I don't know if it's going to be as easy as it looks.
So, has anyone out there ever done this? Is it hard to do? I have the pressure washer, and an air compressor and it seems as though I just rig the two together, hook up the water and viola! Snow! Is there anything else I need? TIA!
Well, I started it and there is a 10'x10' patch in my backyard of snow! (Yes, it's real actual white fluffly snow...you can even eat it!) You simply use a fine mister sprayer attached to the hose of your pressure washer. The you have to hook up an air compressor and rig it so that the air blows the water from the pressure washer out. As far as taking my kids to see snow, the nearest snow is over 6 hours away. They have school; I have school; hubby has school. Hubby has work. I have volunteer work. On top of that, I'm saving money to go to Ohio in June for my sister's wedding. I can't afford to pack up four children and fly or drive to where there is snow...hence why I made it. I knew that some people would make comments about me taking some of theirs. The grass is always greener huh? LOL!

Glad it worked for you! My kids' school in downtown SA hires someone to bring in a truck every January that makes snow for the playground for one morning. It only fills a small part of the playground, but the kids who never see snow are excited with whatever they can get! :)
I have never made snow--no need to. I can send you some if you like :-) I have a big yard and about 5ft tall worth of snow.

LOL, two thoughts came to mind when I saw this. One - I bet half the country would respond in a grouchy manner to your wanting snow ;-). I also thought you meant a much smaller scale. There are little kits kids get sometimes that you add water and it's supposed to be "snow". It's not, it's like the stuff in diapers that holds a lot of moisture and is fluffy.
I say go for it! Try it in an area where it won't matter if you end up with a sheet of ice (ice skating? :-). Also, don't get to wet and cold!

I too grew up in Northern Ohio, Westlake to be exact. Both kids are southern. However, we lived in Kentucky so they were able to see snow. I enjoyed watching their little faces when we would make snow angels and snow ball fights. However, there is a reason I moved out of Westlake. I hate the cold!!! I commend you for thinking outside of the box so that your kids could experience snow. Big mom high five!!!
I LOVE THIS!!! I can't wait to give it a try! We live in Houston and have made drives to Dallas just to let our kids see snow, playing in relatives' yards-lol. But we are expecting 2-5 inches of snow tonight! A very rare event here! I think San Antonio gets some too.
I've never made snow (just snow cream!). As long as you have a big enough yard to do it without bothering your neighbors, I'd say go for it! I used to want to do that when I was little, but my parents never did... haha
I have been snow skiing where they make their own snow! Same concept, pressure washer & water. Except theirs is hooked up to looooooong poles up in the air! :)
Come on over. have all the snow you want and then some. oh i have ice too. ask my behind. i slipped like the best of them today.
no, don't know how to make snow but why don't you plan a trip somewhere with your kids this year or next year. let them have the real thing. even take them sledding. although i'd give my right arm, and kidney to make it stop snowing. geez.
I'd be more then happy to give you some! We have at least 4 ft on the ground with more on the way for Saturday and next Tuesday.
