Im thinking about draining our soft sided pool below pump and covering, then leaving up for winter> Has anyone ever done this? It is an inflatable with the ring at the top, 18 x 48, we also have below freezing weather in winter!!
Do you mean an intex type pool? My husband takes ours down at the end of every august. I am under the impression that only a permanent above ground can stay up. I could be wrong though...
Ours is pretty large (18x48) if that helps any.
I don't know anyone who ever has, but I would sure like to know if it is possible. We live in MN, so I'm sure it is not feasible here; 42 degrees below wind chill would probably do it in. I hope you find out what you need to know. Ours too is 15 X48, it sure would be nice if possible not to have to take it all apart. Good luck.
We left ours up every year. Never had a problem. We had both the inflatable top type and the one with the pvc supports. We did not empty them at all. Just put a cover over it and weight it down with jugs of water. This never caused any problems with the pool or the filter for us. Good Luck.
A friend was just talking about this. Hers is the 18 foot one with the poles on the sides and she drained it half way and put in some shock last year and it did fine thru the winter. The only concern she had was when the huge ice cube started to melt. She was worried that it would actually puncture the pool. This did not happen but she said it was very possible. The only other problem with the inflatable ring one would be if snow weighed down the tube or if ice chunks punctured it..... would it be ruined?
