Was the surgery last week (Jul 26)?
The surgery is over and I'd follow the doctors recommendations for recovery.
I think I'd be a little more nervous leading up to the surgery than afterward but that's just me.
The stitches should heal up fairly quickly (that should make hair washing easier).
Does she have to wear a helmet to protect her head for awhile?
I'd stay in close contact with her doctors office and I'm sure they'll be happy to answer any questions you have.
It's hard, but try to relax for your child's sake - they can tell if you are upset/worried and it can make them scared.
If up coming school has you worried - work with the school and your doctor to make sure she'll be alright.
It's not likely the school will allow a child who's just had brain surgery to take gym/recess until they get a go ahead from the doctor.

We were given a helemt to wear for a year after our head surgery. One child was born without a soft spot so they had to make one. I was worried beyond belief. I even stopped working until I knew that the head was fully healed because I was so worried. After a year and a half of a helement things looked great. At the 3 year appointment the doctor said "you have a normal healthy little kid!" I cried I was so happy. Just be on your toes and try to keep things away from the edge of the counters so nothing can be pulled down onto the head.

How old is your daughter?

My dad had a lot of brain surgery and we washed the scar and the area very gently. I bought him a very soft brush to use once the scar healed. We found that the scar area attracted cradle cap, so I worked on it very gently with the brush. Once my four year old did accidentally hit him the head with a broom handle which wasn't great. His head was ringing for a while, but he recovered. If you're worried, why not get a helmet until it heals a bit more? Good luck.

My daughter never had brain surgery, a few knee surgeries and let me tell you, I'm still a nervous wreck when she even walks at a fast pace! Her most recent one was about 14 months ago, she had a lateral release where they had to cut all of the fibers to her knee and realign her kneecap. Her injury started when she was 8 & this surgery was just done when she was 12, she is now 13 1/2 and we have an appt this morning b/c her kneecap may have dislocated the end of last week. It never ends, but there comes a point that I realized I have to let her make her own judgements (to a certain extent). She also had a blood trauma to her brain this past Feb so I'm with you to a certain extent w/the brain thing, that was scary. She was also diagnosed w/an aracnoid cyst when she was about 6 so since that point i've been a mess. I don't think we as moms ever stop worrying, but we do have to allow our children to live outside of a bubble sometimes, or do we!!! Best of luck to you and your daughter.

both of my kids, now 18 and 19, had neurosurgery for Arnold Chiari Malformation in 2003 - I have just now started to lighten up a bit...they had part of their skulls removed as well as the lamina in C1 and C2....how old is your daughter and what was the surgery for?....be kind to yourself as this is still very new and there are many considerations plus having your kid in brain surgery is huge for stress
