Hi Ladies, We booked this cruise almost a yr ago and cannot beleive its finally here, my 5 yr old has been asking for 2 weeks when are we leaving. Non the less now this flu has broken out and everyone is advising people not to travel to mexico at all. The cruise only stops in cozumel for one day, but I have been calling them asking if they will change the port or even cruise around instead of going, they have continued to tell me they are monitoring the situation and as of today have not changed the itenirary. I cannot for the life of me understand this. Other cruise lines have cx all stops to cozmel and mexico completely. This ship will be mostly families with small children and it upsets me that they feel they know more than the CDC and everyone else. Should we go? We are set to leave Sat. So i need to really make up my mind. My husband is completely set on this and says disney would not put us in danger, i think he is just so excited. We spent over 6k on this and i just feel mad that I will have to be so worried if we stop in cozumel. They told me that I do not have to get off the ship when we are in port but if other people get off and then back on what is the point we will all be at risk. Has anyone been on the disney cruise and if so how was it and did you get sea sick or any other type of flu, I am now hearing from friends that cruises are not safe and that people always get sick. That makes me feel better as I am so excited for this. Please let me know what your thoughts are. I do have trip insurance so i can cx at anytime. But what would i tell my daughter and I want to go soooo bad, I just do not want to stop in cozumel. UGH!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So Disney finally cx the stop in Cozumel today. We are going to have a stop in Nassua instead. I feel much better. I am still a little nervous with this whole thing, but will take purell and lysol wipes with me and be extremely careful.

No you should not go. Most cruises to Mexico have been canceled so you may want to check with the cruise line. Also most hotels and cruises are cutting people slack if they are rescheduling due to the recent outbreak. They have put up a travel advisory that says only go to Mexico if absolutely necessary.

I would talk to your ped, there are some precautionary measures you can take, maybe purell a lot? I do think disney will make other plans, they can't aford to risk the ship.

I just looked this up for you, If it were me......I think If they continue to say they are still stopping in Mexico, I would change my trip. I would wait for as long as I can to change it to see if they skip Mexico. Sorry.

Any people are wondering if Disney has issued any travel warnings or advisories regarding travel with Adventures By Disney or Disney Cruise.

Currently, Disney has not released any advisories or travel warnings. Their western Caribbean cruise does stop in eastern Mexico. So far, the swine flu in Mexico has not spread to this region, however, that's not to say that it couldn't in the next few days/weeks.

The Adventures by Disney itineraries for 2009 do not travel to the Mexico area.

As with all situations of this nature, Disney will likely be overly cautious and avoid the Mexico stop, should the disease move into that region. Until then, make sure if you're traveling anywhere internationally to keep an eye on all CDC travel recommendations. Currently, the CDC recommends against any non-essential travel to Mexico.

All cruise ships, including Disney's, have taken extreme precautions to ward off any diseases. These precautions have proven to be effective in mitigating all diseases aboard ship. In fact, all cruise ships that visit U.S. ports are subject to periodic unannounced inspections by the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program.

Most likely, they will make the decision not to stop in Cozumel. You can't be the only passenger calling to check in on this issue. If it were me, I'd still go, and just not get off the ship at Cozumel...if they still even stop there. I really think they'll cancel it, especially if other cruises are canceling stops in Mexico. If it makes you feel better, contact the cruise line about canceling or getting you on a different cruise.
