Hi,
My son goes to daycare 4-5 times a week, and we pay $145 a week. We really like our provider, and we're planning to give her a gift card for Christmas. What's a good amount to give? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Hi all,
Thanks for the many responses. After reading them all, my husband and I sat down and figured out our Christmas budget. We've decided to give our daycare provider a $40 gift card--a Visa Card--so she can spend it anywhere. That's a comfortable amount for us, but I also feel like it's a good amount. Happy Holidays to you all!

Hi A.,

I am glad you ask this question, because this is my first year as a mom, so don't know the drill :).
But in my case I take my daughter to a daycare center, so they are several people that take care of my daughter. I wonder if other moms are reading this what do they do? I really can't afford to give $25dlls to 5 ladies. Any suggestions for the other moms? Thanks,

Hello,

We have given $50 every year to our provider. I have often wondered if I am being cheap so I am looking forward to reading more posts!

I have heard you should give one week's pay, but I know that is hard to do. My mom does daycare and she gets anywhere from $25 to Target to a $100 Visa card. She makes about $150/week. I think any amount, along with a nice card, will be appreciated.

Last year our son was in daycare full time and this year he is there full time except the two mornings he's at preschool. We give our daycare provider (who is fabulous!) $100 for Christmas with the stipulation she has to spend it on herself. Even though she says it's too much she loves it and deserves it! I think any amount is appreciated!

Hi A.!

I think with the economic issues that we are having a nice card and a gift card in the ammount that you are able to afford. If it were me and I will be getting my sitter a gift card for Target or a Visa card with $25 on it. I think that it just depends on what you can do! Let us know what you decide to do!

I am a daycare provider and any amount that my parents want to give is appreciated. I won't worry too much about it, just get what you can afford and think is reasonable. My self i wouldn't expect them to spend more than $25-30 on a gift for me b/c that is the average gift amount i give out outside of family.

I did daycare for 5 years. Most of the presents I received (whether gift card, cash, or gift) was valued between $20 and $35. I did have a couple families that gave around $50 +. It really depends on the area you are from.

Most of the providers where I am from were receiving the lesser amounts as well. Also, an average weekly pay for one child around my area was only $75 for full time..... So, that makes a difference as well. I think most people just do what they can afford.

I have given our provider a 75.00 giftcard to Target for the last 5 years. She is amazing, and it's a great way to show her how much we truly appreciate her. I give half of what the normal weekly fee is.

I usually do a $35 giftcard to a restaurant and a picture of the kids and have them make her something.

My son is in a half day K4 program. We give his teacher a gift card for $25 and the assistant a $20 card at Christmas time.
