Ok, so I know this is my 100th post but you girls are just so good at offering advice. Here's another one...

I'm almost 7 weeks pregnant with #2. This past week or so nothing (especially meat) has sounded good. The thought of meat about sends me over the edge. I don't have morning sickness but not eating is making me feel sick, not to mention I know it's not good for me or baby. I've only been able to convince myself to eat soup. Not even junk food sounds good. Again, my first pregnancy, I was closely monitored (before finding numerous other complications) for extreme weight lose. I lost 10 pounds then. This time, I'm already 10 pounds under what I was when I was pregnant with Emme and seriously can't afford to lose another 10. Any ideas on what I can eat?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I went to the doctor today and he also recommended the Ensure shakes. He told me to try and eat and drink those shakes because I was already too skinny...I'll enjoy that 'problem' while I can! Thanks girls! You're great!

you'll be ok, just try and stay hydrated. I lost over 18 pounds with my first and dehydration was really my only issue because I vomited non-stop. What really helped me was to freeze gatorade, then smash the bottle(I would beat it on the edge of the counter) and make it into a slush and eat it w/ a spoon. It was the ONLY thing I could keep down. You'll get through it, just keep trying something until it works.

I had this same problem with my second one and I drank a lot of smoothies! It was the only thing that sounded good, and I felt like at least I was getting some good nutrition (calcium, fruit, etc.). Good luck!

Are you drinking okay? Have you tried the Ensure-type products for moms-to-be? That's one way to at least get a few calories in your system. What about dairy? Can you eat cheese? Toast with peanut butter? If you have allergies and you've mentioned them in other posts, I'm sorry. I haven't been on for a while. I'm just brainstorming here. I know my SIL had the bleaghs really bad when she was pregnant with her new baby, and it was hard for her to eat, too--I know you said "nothing"--what kind of soups are you choking down? Can you add anything to the soup to make it more nutritious and calorie-rich? Can you eat beans okay? They're good in many vegetable soups, especially Mexican & Italian versions like taco soup or minestrone, and you can go meatless with both of those, if you need to.

Good luck!

Hi...

Have you tried any of the morning sickness remedies out there? Morning Sickness Magic is really good and so are the Preggie Pops. It's defenitely worth a shot:

P.S. I know what you're going through. I had horrible morning sickness with all of my pregnancies. Just the thought of food made me want to puke. I hope these products can help.

Ensure or one of the other brands like it. They are meal replacement shakes that people who have trouble keeping solid food down for one reason or another can drink to help them get some nutrition into them. I used them when my morning sickness was 24 hour a day sickness and it helped me feel a lot better.

Sorry about the food aversion -- I'm 22 weeks now and am gradually getting an appetite back but for the first several months nothing sounded good. I'm still very averse to meat -- I've been drinking a lot of high-protein Ensure shakes (you may want to ask your dr. but I'm guessing it is safe) and eating yogurt to get protein. I tried peanut butter sandwiches for a while but got sick of those - they did work for a few weeks though.
Good luck.

P.S. Emerson is my choice for a girl's name :-)

B.,
What about some of the liquid supplements like Ensure?? They come in tons of different flavors and I have even heard of some of our customers ( I work at a pharmacy) who whip them up with some ice cream...to make a "shake"!!! There are also some really delicious nutrition bars that you might find appealing to you.
You may just need to "muscle through this" and eat things even though they dont appeal to you...tell yourself that you are doing this for the baby!!! We Moms have to do things we dont particularly enjoy ALL the time...right????
Good luck to you and God Bless

I am 29 weeks prego with my second and went through the same thing with this one--couldn't stomach the thought of eating anything and fixing supper at night was next to impossible! I hated it. Thankfully it passed. I ate lots of raw veggies because part of the problem was the smell of food or thinking about what to prepare. No real morning sickness or anything, just an aversion to food in general, particularly meat and anything with garlic! So, keeping raw veggies and fruit around made it easier. I also ate alot of cereal--although couldn't drink milk by itself. Strange things these little guys do to us!!

I know when I was pregnant with all four of my children, if I didn't eat I would feel sick and nothing would sound good. Try to eat right when you wake up, some grapes or a banana, just try to make sure you have something in your stomach...that's what my problem was, if my stomach was empty everything (even water) made me sick. Good luck!

I lived off of macaroni and cheese, strawberries, McDonald's hash browns, and vanilla milkshakes the first 4 or 5 months of my pregnancy. Different things work for different people, but if soup is what's working for you, there's some really good cookbooks of just soup recipes out there for som variety and lots of choice so you can avoid the things that turn your stomach right now. The Soup Bible from Barnes and Noble is pretty good, as is Cooking light's Soup and Stews Cookbook. Also, there's soup kits in the grocery store that have all the seasonings and you can add whatever sounds good to you, which will end up having more nutrition than canned soups in a lot of cases. Good luck, and keep talking to your doctor.

Have you had your thyroid tested lately? You might want to look up thyroid problems to see if you think you might have a problem with your thyroid. This way you could ask your doctor about it.

How do you feel if you just snack all day long? Does even a little bit of food make you feel sick?
Just a couple ideas.
I hope you find something that works. Good luck.

Normally, I LOOOOOVE food, but when I was pg, I couldn't stand it. Try drinking Ensure protein drinks. They taste pretty good & have lots of nutrients that you need. Take care!

I had morning sickness really bad with both of my kids. Crackers are always good. Eat small but filling foods. I ate mashed potatoes. the carbs will be good for you. Or try drinking filling stuff, I think they make drinks now for pregnant moms. Like Ensure. I think that might be who makes it. Eat full soups too. Just make sure you get nutrients Fruits and veggies with dip would be small but nutritious too. Hope you start feeling better. Good Luck. Hope this is helpful.

Hey B.! I am four months pregnant and have just recently gotten over my "all day sickness". I see a lot of Ensure suggestions, but I actually drink the Atkins shakes. They have the protein and calories you need without all the sugar. I get mine at Sam's Club, b/c they are a little bit cheaper there. If all you can eat are soups, you might try only cream and cheese based soups for more calories. Good luck, and I hope this goes away soon. Keep us posted!

Have you tried energy drinks? If you like to use the blender try throwing together some yogurt with friuts & such. Sometimes I go through periods of not being able to eat & I drink stuff like Ensure.

i was that way with my first pregnancy. i never threw up, but the thought of food and the smell of it made me sick to my stomach. i lost 12 pounds with him and didn't gain a pound over my non-preggo weight until i was 6 months along.
my doctor told me that the baby will get what he/she needs and not to worry...he said the baby seemed to be fine bc. the heartbeat was always great. i was just to eat what i can when i can.
i ate alot of cereal (mainly without milk), cheese and crackers, peppermints, and mashed potatoes. sometimes i could get a fruit smoothie too. one random thing i could always eat that i could stomach was mcdonalds chicken nuggets.
hope this helps you...wish you a wonderful pregnancy!

go bland, vanilla wafers with a little peanut butter for protien, Try sucking on peppermints that helps with nausea. Go to the grocery store and wander the aisles and see what smells good or what sounds good. Sometimes that helps, just stay away from the meat dept! Good luck sweetie hope you feel better soon.

I had one pregnancy where all I could stomach was baked potatos with broccoli and cheese. Go with whatever sounds good.
