Flies Swarming on patio-YUCK

I am having issues with flies-they arent the normal big flies, they look like them, but smaller. They swarm right under our orange tree and a little in front of it. I am wondering if they are fruit flies, but they are driving me crazy. Our patio door is near the tree so I am dealing with them getting in whenever we open the door. We bought this nasty smelling trap bag that catches most of the bigger flies but they still keep coming. I even tried spraying raid around in the air! I've tried hanging the bag with water in it too but it didnt work. Any other ideas besides cutting the tree down?? I really dont want to-and they arent around in winter, only warm months-HELP! We had a dog but she has been gone for a few months now, and no other animals. Thanks!

What can I do next?

A simple fan is sometimes helpful to keep away small flies and mosquitos! They don't like to fly in the breeze of it.

BIRDS NEST!!!

Build some bird houses and put the feed and let them come home!!!

Husband says to contact your local nature center to find out what birds in your area like flies and what would attract them to a nest or to nest....

his other suggestion is to encourage a bat's nest...they eat mosquitos and flies!!

GOOD LUCK!

Have you tried putting a cup with I think it is vinegar and dish soap? I can't remember exactly how you put it together, but I think you cover it with clear plastic wrap and poke a few holes in it (so they can get in...but then they are supposed to get trapped in the water/soap and not be able to get out). Or maybe if you use juice and dish soap? I can't remember the "recipe" exactly.

Have you tried this:

You got some good answers. I would just caution you about inviting birds into your yard. They are loud and messy. Take it from someone who has been trying to get rid of roosting birds for the last 2 years!

Good luck!

Sounds like fruit flies. Pick up all the fruit once it hits the ground and put it in a closed container to go out with the trash. Be sure there isn't fruit with punctured skin on the tree. Remove those too.
