What brand of flea drops did you buy? With the life cycle of the flea some stages of the life cycle lay dormant for up to 9 months. I am not trying to discourage you. If you are using Frontline + or revolution than you are good as far as the most you can do. It just takes time (3-4 months) to get rid of all the life cycles. The one stage will hatch and you will see fleas and then they will die on your cats. The other thing to do is try to figure out if there is a nest somewhere, that may also be the source of the problem. Wash all of the bedding that the cats use as well.

Side note: with the topicals (frontline/revolution) they are supposed to be water proof but I still do not bath a day before or a day after application.

We spent MONTHS and months and hundreds of dollars trying to fight fleas last year and earlier this year. Out of desperation one night I went to Walmart and bought the last product we hadn't tried, and for us it has been a winner! It is the flea powder that you sprinkle on the pet and then a separate powder that you rub into the carpet then vaccuum up. Once a week for 3-4 weeks and Ta-Da! no more fleas! It dries them out so its not instantaneous, but it does seem to be way more effective than any other method. The pet powder is "Hartz Ultra Guard Flea and Tick Powder" and the carpet one was "Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick carpet powder". Bonus: also cheap! At walmart the animal powder was $2.86 and the carpet powder was $6.16. This is probably why we didn't try it earlier, because we figured we would need to spend a lot to make it effective. I wish you so much luck because I know how frustrating it is!

I would recommend that you use front line for cats. It kills ALL life stages of the flea and you will see quicker results. Reapply as directed.

the weather being as it has----rainy, warm, humid--- it's probably produced an abundance of pests, not just fleas. Remember that people can bring them in from outdoors too.
I'd say bomb the house again. There are also flea traps that are inexpensive, not toxic (like bombs or usual flea treatments) and work with light, the warmth of the light, and a sticky pad. They see the light, aim for it and bada boom bada bing, they stick to the pad forever and are no longer a problem. Go online and type in flea traps. But I do recommend bombing the house again.

We had this happen a couple years ago, and we had an older cat that became anemia because of it. We had to have the cats dipped by the vet and the we had to rip up the carpets, have the furiture and beds steam cleaned. It was costly but worth it. We did end up with a very sick cat that never did recover so be very careful. The fleas were sucking to much blood from him and his white cell couldn't produce fast enough. Sorry to not be as positive as other but if you cats are like ours they are your other child to you.

Are you emptying the vacuum right away and/or putting poison in the vacuum? The fleas will just crawl right back out.

You may have an infestation in the house that you aren't finding.

Make sure you aren't putting too much toxic stuff on your animals or in your house...they can get pretty bad!

I really don't think the collars work too well. Frontline worked the best for me. Buy some Sevin dust and sprinkle it around the outside of your house. Get diatomaceous earth and sprinkle on the carpets and vacuum.

Comb your cats with a damp comb and as you get a flea either break it or smother it in a paper towel soaked in water and dishsoap. Too many fleas can lead to anemia for your cats. And I agree with another poster...make sure you wash their bedding.

Becareful using so many flea product on the cats, some may interact and depending on the one you use some do not work well or can cause bad reactions. Apply a good quality one, like Frontline Plus or Revolution, one your vet recommends. Make sure to use it monthly and do not restrict where the cats are going in the house. They will pick up the fleas and they will die. Are the cats indoor/outdoor? If they go outside they can keep bringing more in if you have wildlife. Make sure every animal in the house is treated also. Also if you bathe the cats and then put a topical on, it is probably not as effective, usually you have to wait 24-48 hours after bathing to apply. Keep up the vacuuming and make sure to get the edges of everything, cracks, furnitiure, also anything they sleep on that is washable throw in the washing machine. It can take awhile to break the cycle- good luck!
