Finally Decided - So Excited!

For a year and a half almost I've been attending online college for Early Childhood Education. A week ago I accepted the fact that this major simply isn't right for me. Now I am embarking on a new path. I'm switching my major to Complementary and Alternative Health. I'm also going to go through a Massage Therapy course to become certified. I'm considering working with women who are pregnant and in labor. It's the first time since starting college last year that I can actually envision my future career. That's how I know this choice is right for me. :)

I'm also going to take up writing again in my spare time. I've always wanted to be a novelist.

Anyone with advice for this journey?

What can I do next?

I know so many people who were in the education field and they aren't anymore. Budget cuts, etc. Things are hard, at least here in California.

If you have found another field that you are really excited about, go for it.

Good luck!

Congrats on your excitement. Just work on prioritizing your time...you are going to be doing a lot...you cannot possibly do everything all of the time. Figure out what is most important at any given time and do that. That means lots of multitasking... For instance, it may take you 2-3 hours to make special goodies for your child's bake sale. Maybe you can buy cupcakes from a bakery and save the time to use for studying....

Congrats mama! I'm 34 and in school full time, its amazing and I'm so happy I am doing it! There are a ton of pro's with being a mom and going to school, we already know how to juggle and how to prioritize time. And we are not in that stage of life where we go out till all hours of the night to party. The moms in my program are doing so well because of all these things, I think we definately have an advantage :) :) :)

Grats on your journey. A lot of people end up changing their majors at least once. I know I did a handful of times.

As to writing. Make time to write every day. This is easier said then done. I have a book or two that I've been working on. Google Holly Lisle, her courses have helped me out A LOT. or www.Hollylisle.com

One of the authors that I like a lot took some of her courses so I figured I'd check it out and it has really helped me to get focus, to edit etc. She is also an author and only has recently started writing again. For a few years she took a break and created how to classes. How to think sideways would be an awesome class for you to get started in. It's all online and each week you get a lesson. And this is anywhere from how to generate ideas, character development, self publishing, writing queries, finding "spies" (people to help you with information) editing etc.
