Hi R.,
Another good website to check out is ellisisland.org. It has wonderful information if your ancestors immigrated here and came through Ellis Island. There are actual images of the logs that are filled out for each passenger. The logs are great, because they listed things like hair and eye color, other distinguishing marks, how much $ they have, their age, where they are going to go live and many other things like that. We were always told that my Great Grandfater was an orphan and didn't know his parents, well, we found through this that at the age of 12, he came from Germany with his father. So we now had another name to go from! It is alot of fun. I think it is really cool to think that you and your kids are a part of each of the people you find. It makes you want to know more and more! I hope you enjoy your journey into the past! Good luck!

I've used Ancestry.com. I'm new to it so I can't give you alot of info about it, but it is a pretty neat website.
