I hope you all could help. I have been going through paramenapause for about 2 years now but recently (within last 6 mo) my breasts have grown... nothing else in my body has. I have not gained any additional weight my clothes all fit except my bras. I have at least grown 1 or 2 cups sizes. I have been wearing my materity bras for now. I don't if this is symptom of menapause or something more serious? I do not have my yearly checkup again until summer. I did take a preganancy test 1 1/2 month ago, negative. I was wondering if anyone has had this happen? Does anyone have any thoughts? could my body just be changing? Should I contact my OB/GYN? I'd hate to incur more medical costs in this economy if this is just another thing that can happen during menopause.

What can I do next?

Hi,
if you have a regular OB/GYN that you go to, give them a call. Sometimes you can just talk to the nurse in the office and tell them your concerns, and if they think its something that needs to be checked, they will ask you to come in. Otherwise, there is no cost for just a phone call (at least there shouldn't be).
Good luck.

Hi. I completely agree with the others. I am also in the early stages of perimenopause and with all of the info I have read on it, I have never heard of this before. I have heard of a feeling of "fullness", but not growing by 2 cup sizes. Just to be safe, I think that you should give your OB a call and tell them your symptoms. Not to scare you, but it is best to find out as early as possible if you would happen to have cysts or anthing else.

Here is some information that I have on perimenopause:

Possible changes you might expect during perimenopause include:

Changes in menstrual cycle
Vaginal dryness
Decreased bone density
Unpredictable breast tenderness
Skin changes

Breast changes:

Variations in breast tenderness or fullness are common in all women throughout the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. During perimenopause, you may be unable to predict breast tenderness or fullness as your cycle changes. Any lumps in your breast or fluid leaking from the nipple should be evaluated by your health care professional.

In general, estrogen stimulates growth of the ductal epithelium and growth of the supporting stroma or fibrous connective tissue. Progesterone or synthetic progestins make the glandular tissue grow. In pregnancy when both estrogen and progesterone are very high, the breasts are very full and almost hard. In menopause, without hormone replacement, the breasts are the opposite. They are collapsed and soft.

Hope this helps, and keep us posted. :)
