Ear Tubes (At an Older Age)

Possible... This year has been horrible with ear infections. I had them when younger (infant-5 years old) but now at 28 I have already had over 6 ear infections since Feb. The doc said between the weather and seasonal allergies everything is off for many who do not even suffer from allergies. If I go in again for another painful ear infection the doc and I have already talked about doing tubes because for the past 3 months my hearing is horrible do to all the fluid in them.

I'm 34 and need ear tubes now. I have fluid on the ear that just isn't draining and causing lots of minor (but irritating) ear infections.

I have known adults with them. If your ears don't drain, you need them even if you are older.

I had my last set of tubes put in when I was 16... had 6 sets before that...

I haven't had problems since then...

We had the conversation with the ENT after our daughter's second round of tubes this May (she's 2). He said it could be a lifelong issue that really can't be predicted.

I knew a pharmacist in his 30's who had to get tubes to save his hearing.

Much depends on the nuances in how your ear is formed as well as your immunity. If fluid gets trapped, it can become a breeding ground for infection.
