Dosage for 21 Mo. Old Taking Nordic Naturals ProEFA Fish Oil Supplements?

My 21 month old is taking fish oil supplements as he's got a notable speech delay... as well as some sensory processing issues. I have done a lot of reading that this could really help.. but I'm unable to pinpoint a specific dosage for my toddler. The bottle says an adult dosage is 2 capsules per day. What should I give my 33 lb toddler? I'm also giving him sprinkled ground flax seed to meals where appropriate so I don't want to OD him on omega 3s... Thanks!

What can I do next?

HI N., I would buy the Nordic Naturals Kids DHA instead of the adult dose. That way you can be sure that your little one is getting the appropriate dose.
Also, I don't think you need to worry about the risk of heavy metals in Nordic Naturals.
www.vitacost.com is where I get Nordic Naturals.

Nordic Naturals is a great brand, that is what my pediatric neurologist recommended. Get the Children's version in liquid form. A tsp. a day is what I was recommended for my DD when she was 30lbs. The 3-6-9 Omega comes in lemon flavor. We have been on it for three years and have seen a big difference in both kids. DD has speech issues and DS has SPD.

I would recommend switching to ShakleeKids Mighty Smart. There has been a lot in the news lately about fish oil contamination and Shaklee makes does much more than other companies to make sure their products are safe. You can find it at http://www.shakleel.net/healthforlife
Here is a website you can go to to listen to audios on different health issues: http://www.bobsfiles.net.
Also, do you have your son in early intervention? If not, its great and its free. A good occupational therapist can show you a scrub brushing technique that does wonders for sensory issues.

Fish oil is good but I don't think it should be your end all. There are some other products that can give more apparent results and help chelate heavy metals, which are prime suspects for development & language delays and nervous system disorders.

Consider Lugols iodine supplements, Magnesium Chloride rubbed on skin, and NCD zeolite. All of these can be found to purchase online.

If it were me I might start with 1 -2 teaspoons cod liver oil. I would also buy Carlson's brand or kirkland as those are not suppose to have heavy metals in them.
I know there is some documentaion on the goodness of flax, But I have also read that flax can be estrogenic. Look it up online - I think I remember reading this. If that is the case, it can affect thyroid, and that cascades to other organs.

I agree with Anne-Marie-buy the fish oil for children. I was told to give my 32 lb. 3 year old 1 teaspoon of the childrens fish oil. If you go to a natural and organic market to buy the fish oil, they should have employees that are knowledgable about their products and could give you information to assist you.

Good luck!

We buy the same brand (Nordic Naturals) but we get the little "balls" that are strawberry flavored and for kids. Our 2 kids love them!
