Don't You Love Instant Karma?

Lol.

We stopped by the store to pick up a gallon of milk, a new xbox controller (apparently, they don't mix too well with the reclining gears of armchairs...) and some batteries, when we got stuck behind some lady 2 cars ahead who was waiting on another car to back out. I USUALLY have no problem with people doing this... BUT the person she was waiting on had a full cart of groceries, 2 young kids who would need buckled into seats, and hadn't even started unloading yet! UGH! (and this wasn't even that great of a spot... it was about 1/2 way down the parking lot for cripes sake!)

So we sit there for at least 5-6 minutes... can't back up, because there is a line of cars behind us... Can't go forward, because there isn't enough space to get around her. For a parking spot. Freaking ridiculous! We were stuck waiting behind her longer than our shopping trip would have taken! The car right behind her (in front of us) beeped at her a few times, and FINALLY on the third honk, she pulls up and over enough so that we could all squeeze past.

So we all start squeezing past this woman, and the car in front of us totally scores the worlds best parking space! It was as close as you can get to the door, without getting a handicapped spot. It was just soo funny, because it had been sitting there empty the whole time... At least, WE didn't see anyone pull out... and we woulda noticed! lol. We also got a better parking spot than the one she was waiting on... She was STILL waiting on the car to pull out as we were crossing the main 'street' to get to the store's door!

Aaaah. You are going to block the entire lane of traffic, just so you can get a halfway decent parking spot? Enjoy your wait, while I get my shopping done!

I usually don't like to laugh at other people's misfortune (in fact, I'm pretty sure that feeling satisfaction at the expense of someone else's pain will bring the karma bus crashing right into you...) but it annoyed me SOO bad that she would sit there blocking the entire lane, while traffic backed up behind her, because she couldn't drive around a little and get a spot that was already open.

Anybody else love being able to witness instakarma? :)

ETA.. I forgot to mention... this parking lot was NOT crowed in the least... She could have EASILY pulled around at least once or twice to find a spot, rather than blocking the entire lane. We followed her in from the main road, so we know that she hadn't been searching for a spot... she just stopped at the first chance she saw. Heck, directly across from the spot she was waiting for were 3 empty spots. All she would have to do is to drive around and get one, which is why it was sooo annoying. She was also completely alone in the car.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh, wow. You reminded me of my crazy road rage story!

When I was 20 my cousin and I were test-driving a new (used) car... We were heading back to the dealership when the truck in front of us slammed on their brakes to turn into a driveway. So of course, my cousin (who was driving) had to brake really fast. Apparently, that pissed off the guy in a big white truck behind us. He started romping the gas so that he would be RIGHT ON our tail, then fall back, and romp up again... pretty much charging us as we were driving down the road. His face was scary... he was screaming and yelling, waving his arms around and everything. We got stopped at a red light, and were pretty freaked out so we were looking for a pen and paper so we could write his licence info... Well, the light switched and when my cousin didn't IMMEDIATELY go (she took about 3 seconds to close her purse before going...) he actually RAMMED the back of the car with his truck! So we are driving, and he starts doing that charge thing again... so my cousin switched lanes, hoping to let him pass and get behind him. Oooh, no... He got next to us, and actually tried to come into our lane to push us into oncoming traffic! So my cousin slammed on the brakes and pulled an illegal U-turn. He actually tried to follow us, so we zig-zagged around some side streets for a few minutes until we were sure we had lost him.

After a while, we decided to head back to the dealership. When we pulled in, the truck was waiting for us behind the building! (Duh, dealership plates on the car...) He came charging around the building, forcing my cousin to throw the car in reverse and run away backwards from him. We was trying to herd us towards the entryway, again to force us into 4 lanes of oncoming traffic. By that time I had pulled out my phone to call 911. I also used my cousin's phone to start recording what was going on. When he saw me holding the phone recording him, he took off like a shot.

I got a hold of the police, and filed my report... Apparently, we were the 3rd car that day to report this guy's road rage... but we were the only ones who got his license info and any kind of documentation. They picked him up about 30 minutes after our call... turned out he was high on cocaine!

Wow...I though tyou were going to say that somebody did something mean. All she did was unintentionally inconvenience a few people while she jumped at what was probably the first space she came across. (And the pool of possible reasons is vast.) I don't see that as karma because her intention was not to stick it to you. It might have been just a day of misjudgment and embarrassent for her. Don't we all have those sometimes?

LOL, nice morning chuckle.

I drive a high end performance sports luxury car and I always park WAY away from the door and will walk a long distance to the store in order to have my car protected. I don't park next to anyone and try to get a spot so IF someone parks beside me, they have plenty of room so there will be no excuse for door dings.

I have parked, gone into the store and come back out while someone was so freaking lazy, they were still circling the lot for a closer spot.

Some people believe (like the one you encountered) this world truly revolves around them.

ETA: regarding the comments on laziness... I realize that some people may be recently injured, sick, fibro or whatever BUT for the most part, I believe those are the people who do pull over in such a way that they are not creating a traffic blockage.

My lazy comment is in regards to those who feel the world revolves around them and they could care less about a traffic blockage, etc. I've seen this at my local grocer, someone wants to run in so a car blocks traffic so that person can run get whatever important item they need. In the meantime, there is a traffic tie up in the entire lot. THAT is lazy and inconsiderate.

That cracks me up. Unless the weather is really poor, I don't mind walking across a parking lot so I'm all for taking the first spot you find and leaving the close spots for those who need them.

I'm also amused by drivers that ride your tail when you're doing the speed limit, then pass you as soon as they can and speed away.....just to be the first one at a red light.

When going through a long construction area a few weeks ago, there was a driver in a white SUV that just could not settle down. The slow pace was apparently driving him crazy. He floored it to pass us and the cars ahead. He'd weave in and out waiting for another chance, endangering all of the vehicles on the road. A couple of semi-truck drivers noticed what was going on, and decided to take up both lanes, shoulder-to-shoulder, effectively blocking him in for a couple of miles.

You know, I don't have a handicapped sign for my car yet, but I have fibromyalgia. I would love to be able to get to park as close as possible to the stores and other buildings. You can't see my disability even once I get out of the car. It has nothing to do with laziness, but everything to do with pain. Debilitating pain that a mom has to ignore and still go about her daily duties with.

I agree that it is very possible that it wasn't laziness. Maybe she hurt herself and can't walk so far. Or maybe she has medical problems that make her need to be as close to the shopping door as possible. You just never know.
I have Fibromyalgia too, and some days it's excruciating to walk so I try to get as close as possible, especially because I always have my son with me and that makes it tougher.

Having said all that, she should have paid attention to the people behind her and been more courteous and pulled over to the side as much as she could so that others could pass, or found another spot that was close etc.

It's not always about laziness! :)

I LIKE to think it is more than laziness. that they hurt their ankle or have a handicapped child or elderly mother with them. Or they just have trouble walking thru parking lot with too many unruly kids trying to run off. Makes me feel better to believe that.

I remember driving with a friend when we were about 20 yrs old. The roads were a little icy so we were probably going slower than necessary, but slow enough to feel safe. The pick up truck behind us was not happy about that and did the speed up get close back off thing for a little bit then passed us. Not a mile down the road, guess who we saw in the ditch? Yup. My friend slowed down and I smiled and waved.

I could swear, Suz was just telling my story! I pulled out of my subdivision once and there was a guy right behind me who felt I didn't step on it fast enough, so he got in the turn lane to get around me! DANGEROUS! The turn lane runs the whole way down this busy 4 lane highway! So it turns both ways! Anyway, he was flipping me off and revving his engine, only for us to get up to a stop light (red) at the same time! Then, he's still all hyper and trying to hurry around everyone, we get to another light, he turns right, so he can do a u-turn, get into that right turn lane and get ahead of us all. Our light turned green, while he sat at his red light and we all drove on by! I think I may have waved at him! LOL!

And while I do agree that it may not have been laziness that led this woman to block traffic, ignorance obviously played a part...there is no reason to not be courteous and at least move over so the flow of traffic is not stopped! That is a huge pet peeve of mine! And if she did have some disability that required her to get a good spot, I would think she would have jumped on the one closest to the door rather than waste 5 minutes waiting for one that wasn't so close! Just a thought!

Yes! On my way home, traffic is moving at 75+! I set my cruise control and do 70 - that's 5 mph over the posted limit and fast enough IMO.

There have been a couple of times when cars will be on my rear bumper and FINALLY go around me. Then I see them a mile or two down the road getting a speeding ticket!

Gotta love that karma!

I've had this happen many times at various stores. I've actually parked a greater distance away, did my shopping and was back out. All the while the person was there still so patiently waiting on the a car to back out, albeit on the car's back end to where backing out was not possible.

I was driving past our local high school once and there were two cars waiting to exit the parking lot. The first one got out ahead of me and took off, but the second one had to wait for me to pass first. A short distance from the high school is a fairly long turn lane and as soon as we got to it, the car behind me zoomed around me (I was going the speed limit or maybe just over it). Unfortunately for them, a sheriff's deputy was coming from the other direction while they were whipping past me -- he immediately turned around, turned on his lights, and went after them. I saw them again a mile or so later -- he had pulled the car over and the teenage driver he was talking to didn't look like she was enjoying her day so much!
