Hello:
I have several baby items that i would like to donate and would appreciate ideas. I do not want to donate to Salvation Army or any other place that gains a profit from my donation. In rgards to the Salvation Army..THEY MAKE PE0PLE PAY MONEY FOR USED ITEMS.. This is exactly the opposite of what I am trying to acheive. I do not want anyone to pay for these items. I don't have the time or patiences for Craig's List or Freecycle. I've contacted a batter women's shelter in Chicago and Newborns in Need and waiting to hear back. Utlimately, I would love someone to come by and pick the stuff up.

Thoughts and ideas would be great!. Thanks!

if they are non-clothing items, the Community Crisis Center in Elgin needs things for their facilities, but they do ot accept clothing.

Please keep in mind that the Salvation Army doesn't actually "profit" from the resale of donations - those profits go their adult rehabilitation program.

I understand your wanting to donate to a women's shelter, and you absolutely should if you wish, but I wanted to clarify regarding Salvation Army donations - it's a really great organization that doesn't waste much on administrative costs and does so much good for those in need.

Ultimately it's up to you, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to donate to Salvation Army. They don't 'make a profit' but the proceeds they get from sales go to help those less fortunate. They are a non-profit organization. From your query it sounds like you are wanting to help folks out, and Salvation Army does just that. In fact, I see it as two-fold help, because many people can't afford to buy new things for their families, and rely on 2nd hand goods and clothes from places like Salvation Army. If you donated to your local SA you might very well be helping a poor family, single mother, etc.

Just something to consider. And they pick up.
