Do You Know of a Family Truly in Need?

Hi All,

My family and I would like to provide for another family (or two) this season that is TRULY in need. We would like to provide dinner and gifts. When I say "truly in need," it means not a family where the kids are wanting American Girl dolls or Playstations. My children don't even have these. By no means are we a wealthy family or have money to splurge. We simply want to help out a family that doesn't have the means this season. I remember what it was like as a kid to have nothing. We barely had a roof over our heads, food to eat, and clothes on our backs and that was about it. Yes, just the bare necessities. =) And it wasn't just during the holiday season...it was my whole childhood life.

So if any of you know of a deserving family in need this season please contact me as soon as possible via mamasource. Please tell me why you think this is the family we should provide for. If you can include the ages of the children as well.

I am well aware of the community storehouse and other charities that we can donate to, please don't advise about these organizations. Some families don't turn to them for help. We never did.

Thanks a bunch!

I have a lady that goes to the same daycare my baby goes to that is in need. She has lost her home and car within the last 3 months. She has asked me if i had a coat that her daughter could have. The only thing i know that she needs is clothes for her daughter. I am guessing that she needs help in other areas( grocery, gas) as well. She is 14 months old and wears 18-24month clothing and size 5 1/2 in shoes.Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Well actually Mission Arlington will give you a family that's come to them in need already. You tell them what size family you're willing to help (family with 3 young kids, for example) & they will give you a sheet with their names, ages, & Christmas wish list. You can even deliver the gifts personally to the family if you choose with a Mission Arlington social worker going with you to a meeting spot. My husband I do it every year, and it is rewarding to know exactly who you are helping & to wish them a Merry Christmas in person.

I know of a person who is really hurting this XMAS in more than just financials. This lady just lost her husband to brain cancer about a month ago. This couple has 7 school-aged (one as young as 3 with special needs) children between them and he did not have life insurance so times are really tough emotionally and financially. You are so generous to offer to help a family. Please contact me if you would like her contact information. Thank you for offering your kind heart and generosity.

I thought of doing the same and I like you are by no means wealthy but would be willing to help a family in need. I live in Fort Worth, Texas. Where do you live???? Thinking that if maybe if you lived close we could get together and provide. I only saw this because I decided to look at my spam stuff instead of deleting it. Anyway let me know. Be blessed!!

First of all, how truly amazing you are to think about others and want to do this during the holidays and secondly we need more wonderful people such as yourself in this world. I would love to help as well in any way, whether it be taking items to a family or just moral support. I have 3 teens and I am a single mom - so moral support and physical help is all i can provide. I signed up to be a volunteer at different places during the holidays. It is so rewarding when you can help others. Thank you again for being so caring and please contact me if you would like the help. God Bless you and your family!

Belle,
I don't know of anyone personally, but wanted to let you know about a local group that you may not know of. Family Gateway works with homeless families, helping them get back on their feet and be self-sufficient. All of the families being assisted have children. Here's their website, if you want to check them out.

My computer has been down since 12/2 so if you have already decided on a family, I completely understand. I have a dear friend that has recently had her car reposessed, her water cut off, and her phone cut off. Her husband is very off and on, he leaves for weeks to months whenever he is upset with her and doesn't bother with paying the bills on time for her. She is currently looking for a job, but is unable to find one due to some circumstances her husband has put her in without thinking, and now she is somewhat cornered. Right now, as far as I know, her husband is not living in the house. She has gotten her water turned back on and now has a cell phone, and is currently working on trying to get her car back. She has two sons, Samuel 7, and Josiah 2. They are very precious boys full of joy and love. Fortunately the youngest doesn't understand what is going on and isn't being affected right now by all the unstableness. Unfortunately, the oldest is affected. I would love if someone could reach out to my friend this year. Her name is Shelley. She really wants to provide for her kids and tries hard to shelter her boys from the battle she is in right now. If you feel lead to help her out that would be awesome, if not, I know that God will provide for her. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I know the Lord will truly bless you for your sacrifice and generosity. God Bless You and your family.!!

Belle,
What a thoughtful person you are! Especially teaching your girls about giving! I do know of a family (many for that matter) that are truly in need. They immediately came to mind when I read your request. The mom is in her mid 30's and she has 3 children. Her husband was hurt in an accident about 10 months ago and stays in a wheel chair and can't work. Shortly before his injury she had a baby boy. She has a daughter that's probably in the 3rd grade, a baby girl that's about 2 years old and a baby boy. She is so faithful to load up all those kids every Sunday morning and take them to church as well as on Wednesday nights. She can't work because they can't afford for a day care. She always has a smile on her face and is so positive but I know they are struggling terribly. Not too long ago someone broke the back window out of their car. I told someone about the insurance deductible that she couldn't afford and they gave me the $ to help her. SHe was so extremely grateful. Then about 2 months ago there was a huge fire in a field behind their house that was spreading fast. My husband and I went to check on them. She was in the backyard coughing through the thick smoke watering down their fence, yard and house while the babies were in the house crying and the dad could do nothing. She works so hard and I know Christmas is going to be such a challenge for them. If you want to know more I would be glad to give you specific sizes of clothes and maybe toys.

Thank you!
J.

Hi Belle,
I just wanted to say thanks for being such a wonderful example! We can all be encouraged by your posting to do something simple and help someone else in need. I don't know particularly of a family in need at the moment. Thank you again though for your generosity and kindness...I am sure it will be very appreciated! God bless you and your family and the families you end up helping.

The radio station KLTY, 94.9, has a Christmas wish program you could take a look at. They go to the Chick Fil A's in the DFW cities and have books with the needs of many families. I bet there is lots of info about it on their website. God bless you for doing this!

I know of a single mom with three teenagers and she has mentioned that she can't afford to buy anything for her kids for Christmas this year. I work with her and she works very hard does whatever she can for her kids. She also has a horrible disease called TN and she has attacks often, but she still works when she has them. She just barely makes enough money to pay her bills. Her brakes just went out on her van and she can't even afford to get them fixed. Today she walked to work in the freezing cold weather. She won't ask for help, and sometimes she doesn't have food. I think she goes to food pantry's to get food. I don't have much to give, and help her with food at work sometimes. I would love to help her more, but I can't. Maybe you can. She sure does deserve it! Merry Christmas and God Bless you for helping others during this Christmas season.

I just read your story on Mammasource, and I was truly moved. My daughter and her family could really use some help. She (my daughter) has not been out of the house since July 4th, she started having anxiety attacks. She is too scared to get into a car. Anyway her husband works full time in Addison but doesn't make alot of money. They could really use help this year. Myself and my husband are the only family they have here. They will not be able to provide much (if any) gifts this year. I recently got laid off from my job, but I try to help them as much as I can. They have 2 boys ages 10 and 4. If you would like to help them you can contact me @ ____@____.com. Thanks!

Belle, that is so nice and generous of you to think of others in need. I come from a similar background as you and, needless to say, it does hurt when you see other kids celebrating Christmas or any occasions and not receiving anything (or not even celebrating your birthday because our parents couldn't afford it!). I remember my first and only doll that I got for Christmas one year. It was a ceramic black doll about 2" tall and I just loved it!! It broke after a few months and I cried my eyes out! That was my only doll ever!

My husband and I are very active with our church. We help an organization called Beautiful Feet (for the homeless). The person in charge of it is Rob Schill. He has a list of families (don't think it is associated with Beautiful Feet)that are really in dire need of alot of things. You may give him a call and let him explain the program to you. Rob's cell # is ###-###-####. Home # is###-###-####.

We also help our sister parish in Honduras. There are alot of families that really need help! The person in charge of that is Kirstin Kloesel, but she just lost her Dad, and I am sure they are quite busy with the funeral arrangements. Stay in touch with me and I can give you her phone # later if you are interested.

You are a true angel! God bless!
