Do You Ever Put Yourself First?

I have 4 children in the house right now. I'm tired. It's been a long week. I've had the big moonwalk out 3 times this week which makes me nauseous to lug around because it's so large and difficult to fold up. Of course the boys already asked today if we could get it out again.

So far this morning I've rinsed and stacked dishes, made breakfast, pulled back the furniture, folded up the air mattress the kids slept on, put away laundry, put away last nights blankets, and it's only 10:15 with a whole day ahead to potentially work through. But I'm NOT doing it. I drug the toys in the living room, have told the kids they will play with these toys while I put my feet up in the easy chair with my laptop. I will read, watch stuff online, and take a nap with those kids today. I told the kids that today I will cook for them, change the one diapered butt a few times, watch them play, and send them home.

Do you ever just suspend all trips to parks or whatever cleaning needed done and tell the family "back off"!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Krista,
I run a daycare 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. Most of my kids are with me 50-60 hours per week and 2 of the ones here today have been with me 4.5 and 5.5 years. There's never a time, days, nights or weekends I'm not with an average of 4-6 kids counting my daughter and grandson. So in a very real sense...They are my kids LOL.

Absolutely. And I think it is good to designate certain days - ie - moonwalk fridays Only - then if anybody misbehaves, they lose that privilege. If they want an extra day of something, then everybody pitches in and helps fold laundry/put away/etc. Only Tuesdays are pool days, etc. And yes, quiet time is designated every day from 3pm to 5pm, kids can read/watch quiet movie, etc. but NO one bugs mom unless the house is on fire... Setting limits is good. Toys, trips, moonwalks - those are all extra fun privileges, not a right. :)

That is what my time on this site is! 10 minutes of quiet time just for me. or sometimes I tell everyone I will be in the bath, and I turn on the music and sink into a tub of bubbles and just shut my mind down. We all need a breather sometimes.

Last weekend I gave up trying to stay awake and sent my husband and son out. Took a two hour nap. (I'd been running on fumes until then.) It was lovely.

Yep. Gotta let them know who's boss now and then. Boss needs to decompress in order to remain reasonably functional.
They will work around it :)
Enjoy your day, dont burn your lap with your laptop... ha

heck yes i do!!
you would go completely insane if you didnt!
i dont think i know a single mom who doesnt take it easy for at least a couple of hours a week!
everyone needs some time off!

my friend posted about this on her fb page and her sister replied that she does not take time off and i replied to that (i dont know her sister at all) saying that was impossible, and that nobody could do that so either she was crazy or lying about it!! lol, my friend thanked me for saying that to her sister because she is one of those "mom of the year" types who think they are super mom, lol, yeah right!

yes i have. and i always feel guilty for doing it, but i think we need to , so that way we dont lash out at stupid stuff and loose our patience. At least thats the way I function. I usually feel guilty because of my own childhood experience, and because I hate to waste a beautiful day.. especially when we only have them for about 4 months out of 12! But sometimes you just need to. I know in my heart they will forgive me for wanting to chill out every once in awhile :)

Whose kids are they? I ask b/c you referred to sending them home! Did you have a sleepover last night or do you have four kids? Just a thought- have them help you!

Yes- I do take a night off occassionally but not often and when I will usually try to meet a friend for dinner. I don’t think it would work for me to kick my feet up w/ the hubdms & son at home! Although they are both napping right now & I'm on here!
