Do We Need a Sprinkler & Security System in Minneapolis

We are moving to Minneapolis this fall and currently house hunting. We will most likely buy in the Lakeville or Woodbury areas. Do we need a sprinkler system or does it rain enough to go without? (I am not interested in constantly watering with a hose the whole summer.)

Also, do we need a security system or are Lakeville and Woodbury safe enough to go without?

Thanks,
S.

What can I do next?

Welcome to Minnesota S. - especially welcome to the "burbs" south of the river. I wouldn't put in a security system, but then I emigrated from Africa so Minnesota is as safe as heaven as far as I am concerned! We use our sprinkler system throughout the summer - couldn't do without that. This summer was so dry that the people in our neighbourhood who didn't have sprinkler systems and didn't like running out to move the hose all the time, actually had a lot of their grass die. If I had to choose between the two - sprinkler versus security - I would definitely choose the sprinkler. Good Luck with your move.

Lakeville and Woodbury are safe, a security system would be up to you. Personally I don't think anywhere in America is safe anymore. Both those communities are mid-upper class and mostly white. It's not very diverse but is becoming more and more diverse. Nice houses, nice kept up lawns.Good schools. Some like diversity some don't. The closer you go into the cities the more diverse it is, the farther you go out of the city it's mostly white, if you go about a hour out it's sorta countryish... If you don't like watering you may want to get a sprinkler system we usually have about a few weeks to a little over a month every summer where it's real dry other than that we get so much snow and rain the rest of the year were fine.

Hi S., We are actually moving to Woodbury next month.
I've NEVER lived outside Minneapolis, so I couldn't tell you much about how "safe" those two areas are. In Mpls I've never had a security system, I didn't feel we needed one. But it's up to you and how much you want to feel secure. If your husband travels a lot for work and is away an extended period of time, then you may feel having a security system is going to help you feel more safe.
The sprinkler system....I would get one!!! It's a pain to keep moving the hose from area to area and then you forget to turn it off so it's on for hours. I would not water my grass even when it was sooo dry just because I didn't want to deal with it. The house in Woodbury has a sprinkler system and I'm very happy about that.
Good luck with the move!!!
J.

I would say both are a 'personal preference'. We live in Bloomington and I love our sprinkler system...we used it almost all summer long, as it didn't rain until August and was over 90 degrees and very humid for July and part of June...so the grass turned brown quick. I would prefer to never go without it.

I don't have a security system...never really had one. I don't think the area your moving to you would need one...but this is more of a personal preference too.
