Diviated Septum Surgery

My husband had it done almost a year ago, his sinus problems are worse now than they were before. It was a waste of time, money, and he was in so much pain. Not worth it.

Yes I had it about 1.5yrs ago. It was very painful. My sinus issues are worse than before!! I keep constant infections. I wish I had never had it done! It was awful!

My BIL had it done. I don't know the details, but he DID say that AFTER the surgery, his doc handed him some medicine drops and said "well, here are your drops which you'll have to take everyday". To which my BIL said "for how long?" and the doc replied "well...everyday...from now on...". That was just one issue - I think, all in all, he kinda regrets having it done.

My son had it at age 29, it didnt change anything for him :(

My husband had this a few years ago. It was not too big of a deal for him. He was out of work for a couple of days but recovered really quickly. He had it becaue one side was almost completed blocked and affecting his breathing (and making him snore!!). He says that his breathing is better, and I would say his snoring is too. Oddly, though, he says the he has had seasonal allergies ever since the surgery (could be a coincidence?).

My husband had the surgery and it was not bad. He went in and had it out patient. The doc packed the sinus' and nose with a "nasal tampon" that was long and huge. It helped keep the structure shaped to what they wanted, he also has polyps removed in the sinus area. It was not too comfortable but it worked well.

I had it done in Feb 2009. I also had my sinuses blown out...cleaned out...I had sinus and ear infections for several years...it was horrible...I've only had ONE sinus infection in 2.5 years and no ear infections.

It was somewhat painful...more uncomfortable than painful because I couldn't lay down to sleep.

Here's what you need to know:

1. For 48 to 72 hours will have to remain upright - you cannot LAY DOWN.
2. NO bubbly drinks for 1 week post surgery - so if you drink soda or Perrier - start weaning yourself off it.
3. You will have packing in your nose and will not be able to breath through your nose for 48 to 72 hours. When the packing comes out - you will feel light headed for about a minute as it will a "breath of fresh air"
4. You will need to a sinus rinse every night before you go to bed after the packing is out...my allergies did decrease a LITTLE after this as well and it helped my snoring IMMENSELY. I do NOT like the neti pot - I think it's very messy - I use the upright bottle and it makes it VERY easy.

My septum is starting to spur - which my ENT told me was a possibility - but instead of IN - it's out...so I might have to go back in again and have it shaved but I'm not in a rush to do it as it's not really noticeable to anyone other than me.

I had mine corrected during a fairly extensive sinus surgery and there wasnt much impact except for a little tenderness right at the base of my nose on the inside which could have been from either the probes they use or from the septum correction. My doc suggested some neosporin just inside the nostril to keep things from getting itchy. It wasnt a big deal at all -

I did not have my nose packed, although I did have a fair amount of drainage/oozing from the sinus surgery. I also had no swelling, bruising or pain beyond what Advil could take care of.

I had mine done more than 20 years ago and I am so glad I did, in spite of the painful recovery. No bruising, very little swelling, but taking out the packing HURT. No sneezing for two weeks. It fixed my sinus problems and alleviated most of my migraines, too. Also, I can go under water without nose plugs now. One weird thing, the muscles below my nose had to readjust, so my lips looked uneven for a year or so until they did.

Had it a while ago plus I had a chronic sinus infection. It fixed it but I still have issues. I do wish I had both sides considered because when my nose gets stuffy one blocks up more that the other. I do remember pain. I sat up and slept in a chair until I could go back the next day and have the splint removed. Not sure I even got any sleep that night. Once the splint came out though I think it was better.
