Geez, in my day we were not allowed to spend money and the gift was to be outrageous. No nice things like candles, coffee, or candy. The uglier it was the better the gift. Gifts with a double meaning were good. We did not exchange anything that was pretty or useful.

Liquor and lotto tickets are always hotly contested. My favorite was a half-eaten Big Mac with a gift card in the middle. There was a lot of fighting over that one.

Merry Christmas!

Poo-Pourri.

It's real. And it's pretty awesome, actually.

ETA: There's a pretty serious team rivalry in our office with a couple of football teams. So this year I bought a nice coffee mug representing one of the teams. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun watching it be passed around.

My favorite white elephant gift I brought was a tea pot that WAS a white elephant. :)

Try places like Home Goods - sometimes they have seriously random, funny stuff - like a chicken for your kitchen decor.... yep - that was a popular steal item :)

We just got done with ours at work. A lot of wine and alcohol were wrapped. I got a gift card to a liquor store (we don't drink so we'll be gifting it). Some candles, movies, bath salts, baking items, etc.

Last year a coworker did lottery tickets - loved that idea! I got an adult themed board game last year - we still haven't played it, but fun times are to be had I'm sure!

Don't do white elephant. It's mean. No one goes home feeling good about getting some old ugly candle that has seen a better day or is so ugly that it's going in the trash can as soon as no one is looking. I hate white elephant games and refuse to participate. And even if there is a dollar limit to the gifts to let people know they are supposed to buy a gift to bring there is always a few that know white elephant means used gifts no one wants.

Dirty Santa is much nicer. Those gifts are new items that are desirable. The dirty part is the taking the cool gift away.

Dominoes

Couple of card games in the same gift bag

Bottle of bath salts and a loofa

Foot massage oil and nail polish and those things that go between the toes

Christmas music that's really new, new album of some popular star

Hand knitted or crocheted scarf with mitten or hat set

Hand made crafts that no one else will have

One year my father in law got a picture drawn by one of his students that was deaf. He still has it hanging in a prominent place. Just drawn by hand but impressive.

oh, my, the possibilities are ENDLESS! even without going to the default of starbucks gift cards!
nice scarf. driving gloves. fancy tin of gourmet popcorn. bottle of wine. nice candle. christmas socks. movie tickets. lottery tickets. gourmet chocolate. cool kitchen gadget like garlic press or nice zester. pretty christmas ornament. 2015 calendar. fleecy throw blanket (those will get stolen until the limit is up!) glass watering globes. beautiful stationary (yes! really!)
my problem is that i only have 9 dirty santa gifts to buy and way too many fun things i could pick!

I suspect my husband had this at work although they didn't have that dollar limit.
He brought this home:

http://www.seattleluxe.com/product/daybreak-rooster-candl...

It has a battery LED flickering candle light inside it.
I have to admit the first time I laid eyes on it I thought is was THE most HIDEOUS thing I'd ever seen.
But it grows on you - it is rather unique and kind of kitsch.

Oh - an Uno deck of cards would be nice.

My husband & I have done White Elephant/Dirty Santa many years.

We make "His" & "Hers" date nights as our gift. Half Price Books has a great clearance selection of movies (we've done VHS in the past, but they now have DVD on clearance, & most people don't have a tape player anymore).

"Hers" will be 2-3 Romantic/Drama/Comedy movies, a pack of microwave popcorn & a box of candy. "His" will be 2-3 Action/Sci-Fi/Thriller movies, & the same extras.

(VHS were $1, I think DVD are $2-3 on clearance. Just make sure to look @ the disc & check that it is in good condition & won't skip. HPB will let you return with receipt, you might want to test-play them before gifting...)

They are always a hit, and at the parties that allow gift stealing, they are highly coveted!!

Good luck, have fun! T.

We just did one...I got a "bacon bowl". (It is a bowl that you wrap bacon around, then cook and you end up with an edible bowl. It was truly hysterical although I admit no one was fighting for my gift😊. One year my SIL got a automatic toothpaste dispenser which was another funny, ridiculously gift. No one wanted that either but throwing in some "bad" gifts makes the exchange really fun and funny.

One of the things that everyone fought over last year at the knights of Columbus party was a set of nuts. They were planters 3 different kinds in big cans. At our party things can only be stolen/traded 3 times. They went quick.

One year, someone brought a tube of "Crack Cream" - I forget who makes it but you can find it with the other skin products and hydrocortisone. It's for severely dry and cracked skin but people got all silly about what other body crack it could be applied to. Add a lottery ticket and a six-pack of one of those beers with funny names. There are also lots of silly gift books in the "humor" section - stuff to read in the bathroom, compilations of ridiculous headlines from newspapers, "world's dumbest criminals" etc. Not sure if this is supposed to be "dirty" or just "not serious" but there are plenty of ideas in bookstores (and helpful clerks at the info desk).

One year I made a tshirt with a picture of my hubby holding a large metal rooster wearing a santa hat with the caption "Merry Christmas from Cxxxxx and his big cock". It was for a couples adult themed dirty santa party and was a big hit.

I personally love those big tins of popcorn in 3 flavors. You could also get one of those musical/dancing stuffed animals, I love those too. But many think they are annoying.
Other thoughts:
Christmas socks for a woman or tie for a man
Prepackaged hot chocolate with cups set
A holiday CD or DVD
A nice holiday decoration

Gift cards are usually a big hit and last year at our work party someone's gift was a bottle of Vodka. Let me just say that Vodka changed hands so many times that I have no idea who finally ended up with it. Just Sayin, lol.
I've seen Holiday decorations given and fought over, typically something having to do with a snowman. A super soft blanket. A starbucks card and a cool travel mug?

There is a gift card game that is played the same as white elephant. I always like to put something nice and useful in the white elephant game. For one, I can't stand to waste my money and another, I like to see people fight over the only nice thing on the table.
