Difference in Breasts Since Birth

Hi,

I was hoping someone else has had this happen. Since the birth of my son 4 1/2 months ago, I have had no feeling in one of my breasts. I breast fed for 8 weeks until my production couldn't keep up with his demand. It has grown a lot since before my pregnancy and has a lot of stretch marks on it. I don't know if this is part of the reason, but it's the only thing I can come up with.

Thanks for your responses.

I thought I was the only one. I didn't breastfeed my son, but I have VERY little feeling left in my breasts. My son is 26 months, too. If you find out why - let me know! :)

I breastfed five babies. I was always bigger when breastfeeding and, yes, got stretchmarks. BUT, losing feeling in one of them is NOT normal. Call your doctor!

Hi, I'm not too alarmed by the different sizes in your breasts, as I am in the lack of feeling. I nursed 3 children for a long time (one child was 2, the other 3 when finally weaned). My right breast was always larger, and produced way more milk than my left. I thought it was due to being right handed. My right breast was a HH cup, my left was a DD, or E while nursing. I think I have bovine genes somewhere in the family tree. Anyway, I also have lack of feeling in my breasts, but that is due to a breast reduction surgery I had back in my early 20's. I cannot even imagine nursing with those boobs. I don't have stretch marks, but both of my sisters do on their breasts from nursing, but they also have small breasts, perhaps a size AA, or A. HOWEVER, the lack of feeling you mention should definitely be checked out...that is not normal. You don't mention which breast, the larger one? Where, all over? focused? The lack of feeling could be something as a pinched nerve in the neck or shoulder area.
Remember, we live in a very forward facing society, even more so after the birth of a baby. We nurse, hold, cuddle, cook, clean, wash, drive, bend over, iron, vacuum, dust, just about everything is done in FRONT of us. So, take the time to lie flat on you back, arms stretched out both above your head and to the side to stretch out the front chest muscle. This also relaxes the back muscles from hunching forward.
Two more tips, I learned a lot from the nursing bra ladies in the maternity stores. Especially the ones who have had a few years experience. Take the time to stop in and chat with one of them. And then there is always La Leche League, they are a free support group for nursing moms. And one more person to talk with, would be the breastfeeding nurse you probably we're put in contact with at the hospital.
God bless you and your new family!

Hi A.,

I have breastfed all 4 of my babies, and I did not lose feeling completely but it was definitely less sensitive to the touch. I never questioned it as I did not think it was abnormal, I felt it was God's way of making sure it stayed a pure and natural thing and not something else. I have regained all sensation after not breastfeeding any more. I can't tell you how long it took as it has been too long ago, my youngest is 11, but the feeling did return. I hope this helps, good luck and God bless.
