Day/Night All Mixed Up!

We just had our 3rd child, she's just a few days old and is all mixed up when it comes to sleeping! During the day she will eat then go right back to sleep for 3 - 3 1/2 hour stretches. At night, she eats and is AWAKE! We've never had any of our kids confused like this. How long does it usually take until they figure it out??

What can I do next?

My son was the same way when we brought him home from the hospital. It took him about a week and a half to get it figured out, now he's four and a half weeks old and he stays awake during the day hours and sleeps his long stretches at night. Just make sure while your daughter is sleeping during the day try to nap with her, if you can I know you have 2 other children which might make it more difficult. I know it's hard, but that's what got me through it.

I always tried to make day time like day time. Kept the blinds open, made regular noise, talked to my kids while they were eating, etc. And made night just the opposite. I never turned on lights (and installed a dimmer so I could turn on lights just barely enough to see to change a diaper and then turn it back down), I never talked to them (except some "shushing") while they ate or played with them at night. Just try to keep night boring and day time exciting. It may take a few weeks for her to adjust.

Congrats on having a daughter this time! Girls are fun!

it ususally takes a little while for them to get their times straight. Try stortening the time she sleeps during th day wake her up move her around walk with her but try to keep her awake as long as possible. she will slowly work it around to the right times. Good luck

Congrats on your new baby girl. Well my mother used to tell me that when I was a baby I got my days and night all mixed up too, and they fiqured out that I could not sleep at night because it was too quit. So if your daughter sleeps in the living room and you are watching t.v. or there is a lot of noise in the room where she is sleeping you may have to do what everyone else has told you and try to keep her awake as much as possible during the day but you may also have to put a radio or something under her bed, let it play all night while everyone is asleep and as she gets more used to sleeping at night with the radio or watever every couple of days turn it down little by little until she used to sleeping with no noise. Thats what my parents had to do with me, so I hope everything works out for you.
