so our daughter is perfect, shes beautiful i wouldnt change anything about her .. what i would change howeever, is everyones (and i mean EVERYONE) reaction when they first see her which is always OMG shes ALL her daddy or WOW she looks just like her daddy or shes daddys little clone -and believe me im nto denying it, the resemblence is amazing -his dad even sent me some baby pictures of him and you would sware they were pictures of our daughter in a blue outfit.. anyway..
at first i thought it was just my fiances family.. ya know i figured of course his family was going to say how much she looks like him and my family would probably say she looks like me .. in the beginning i really thought she had my face and just fiances blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair but after seeing his baby pictures i know thats not the case at all .. even my cousin who is like my sister and always hss been was like listen i dont want to hurt your feelings or anything but i think the only thing she might have gotten from you is her nose other than that shes all her daddy
shes almost 6 weeks old.. and honestly by now im sick of hearing it lol .. like i said theres no denying it, u take one look at her and you see it but its kind of irritating to hear from literally every single person how much she looks nothing like me .. its the first thing to come out of everyones mouth the first time they see her.. and people who have already seen her continue to say how shes looking even more like him everyday.. my entire family saw her over the weekend at a bbq (some of them hadnt seen her yet) and i must have heard it a million times its to the point where im just like yeah ok i noticed i get it shes his little twin and looks nothing like me i dont need to hear it again
anyone else have a child that looks identical to their SO... and get sick of hearing about it lol

What can I do next?

It doesn't bother me at all. I've been hearing it from everyone for almost 5 years now. She looks just like daddy and I see nothing wrong with it. :)
Most newborns look like their daddies though. My DD is still his spitting image.

I guess I should stop reminding my dear friend how much her only daughter looks like HER dad (my friend's dad, the grandfather!). And it is SO TRUE. She knows it too.
I don't say it every time I see her, but I can't help it. Her dad has a BIG personality, too, so he makes an impression (kinda like Santa Claus, lol).

Hmm... I'll try to keep mum about the resemblance from here on out.

It's fairly common for babies to resemble daddy first, all of mine did. My mother once commented that it was natures way of confirming paternity. This will change fairly quickly and she will begin to pick up traits and behaviors that are all you.

It is possible she will always look a lot like him, but my experience over all is that they change so much over time, there are going to be times she will look a lot like your family.. And then sometimes a combination..

The good news is that you love your fiance obviously, so it is a compliment..

Now if they said, who, she does not look like any of you, who is the father, or where did you pick her up or, how did you steal this baby.. it would really make you po'd.

Our daughter looked a lot like my husband in the beginning.. but she has my eyes.. she is now 22 and is a great combination of the 2 of us.

My nephew and niece have always changed every few years. Right now my nephew looks like a hulking version of his father and our niece a wonderful combination of both my sister and her ex.. She used to look like me when she was a toddler.

Do not waste your energy on this.. she is only 6 weeks old and each time you pick her up from a nice long sleep, she will change so much, you will wonder what happened to the child you placed in the crib before nap.

Babies often resemble their fathers when they are newborn. I don't know why. I wouldn't worry about the comments. They should taper off and if the don't you can come up with things like "She has my personality/talent/etc." My DD looks a lot like me, but acts so much like DH.

If it's not one thing, it would be another. Saying she's the milkman's kid, asking where she got curls if no one else got them...I'd just shrug and let it roll.

My youngest is 5, and she looks EXACTLY like her father in every single way, and always has. And yes, I've always heard about it. But it has never bothered me at all. Why does it bother you? People are just making an observation, no one means anything by it. My older daughter looks exactly like me, and everyone comments on that too. So?

Let me tell you, I got the same thing with my first. "She must look like her daddy!" (Daddy was deployed at the time, so this would be people who had never met my husband.) It really bothered me. Not in the sense that I didn't want her to look like her dad, but in the sense that she was my daughter and apparently didn't look anything like me. Time went by, and while she may have more of her father's appearance, she CERTAINLY has my personality (and let me tell you, I'd rather she didn't!) 2 1/2 years later, we had our second (also a girl) and she looks like me and not so much her dad. So, I get it. I wanted my first to look like me, too (especially since she was a girl). But, she didn't, and now I have one that does look like me. It will come in time! :)

Try not to worry about it. My son looks exactly like his father, so much so when he was little they asked me where his Mother was. But as they get older their looks start to change. Your daughters looks might start looking more like yours as she grows. Or she might have your personality, you never know.

Just take it with a smile, and remember that people love to point out the obvious ;)

I looked exactly like my dad as a baby. Same thing. Our baby pictures for the first 6mo or so could be interchangeable.

Then I started looking like myself.

Now I look like my mum.

My son looked like his dad as an infant. Now he "looks like" me. It's the coloring. I'm brown/blue/olive, and so is he... and both of us have SUPER easy smiles/grins while Dads redhaired/pale/angry.

He actually has his dad's bonestructure. But with my coloring, and the easy smiles? People don't see his dad in him.

Have you ever seen a picture of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley's daughter (I think her name is Alexa)? She looks EXACTLY like Billy Joel - a beautiful, female version of her not-so-great looking father. Although she's really beautiful, she looks just like him. Her mother is Christie Brinkley - you know - super model, still gorgeous at maybe 60-something.

All I can say is - nobody on this planet has ever told Christie Brinkley that her daughter looks like her. Nobody has ever told Alexa that she looks like her super-model mother. You KNOW people are thinking - omg, her mother's Christie Brinkley and she looks like her FATHER?????

Anyway, even though you're sick of hearing it (I totally get that). People are just going to say it over and over for a long time. You obviously love your husband, so maybe just go with it. I, personally, love that my daughter looks more like my husband than me and she has his personality. If you're in a funny mood, next time just say - you think so? I was sure she was going to look like my UPS delivery man (or something like that). Congratulations on your baby & enjoy!

I'm not bothered as much by the fact that my oldest is a clone of my husband physically .... I'm more bothered by the fact he ACTS like his father ... not always in the GOOD ways either.

DAMN those strong genetics ... BASTARDS lol

No it doesn't bother me and never has LOL I always like the ones that say my daughter looks like me ... I'm always going "you see a picture of my mother in law you'll change your mind about that" ... she's SOOOOOOOOOO much her paternal grandma (who she never met) I mean down to the same head tilt when they smile ... except her eyes ... the color is all mine.

Youngest child ... he's all my side of the family except for his eyes ... THOSE are daddy's.

Edited to add: My sister is dark haired and dark eyed ... my brother and I are both fair, my mom is fair. My dad has dark hair and dark eyes though. But one time when my sister was in High school she was playing Powder Puff Football (girls tackle football). My mom and step-dad were at her game in the bleachers ... they are standing there cheering her on. A girl in front of them turns to them and says "Are you Dani's parents?" My mom said "yes" the girl then says to my step-dad "I can tell ... she looks just like you".

Now the running joke in our family had been that my sister was the milkman's kid just cause she was the only one of the 3 of us that wasn't blonde/strawberry blonde (she looks (and acts) just like my maternal grandmother tho) ... well my step-dad was a letter carrier (aka mailman) for 32 years ... after that incident at the ball game ... it became an even bigger joke that she was the mailman's kid LOL

I totally get what you're saying - happened with my son; although probably not to the extent you describe. And of course, it didn't help matters that my son and husband have the same name!! For the first couple years, all I would hear was where's "Mini-Tim?" Yeah, well, I got even - my daughter is mini-me!! ha! ha!!

It never really bothered me too much with my kids. What DOES bother me, still to this day, is the comparison with my sister!!! We're both in our 50's, she is five years older than me and we STILL get people saying how much we look alike!! We've even had people ask if we're twins!! (My Mother always thot people were crazy!) She's always had more gray hair than I have, so when I started coloring my hair I thot the comments would stop; nope, we still get them!! But the real clincher was a couple years ago when someone asked if she was my mother!!! That one still makes me laugh!!

If I were you I would just fluff off the comments and laugh about it. I'd also be putting a lot of ribbons, etc. in her hair!! lol!!

Good luck!!

Haha! YES. Actually, both of my daughters looked just like their Daddy when they were babies. My older daughter started to change at about 2 years old and look a little more like me - and now (she's turning 10) she looks exactly like me! Weird, huh?

Of course, my younger daughter started off looking EXACTLY like Daddy, and she still does. She's like if my husband were a 7 year old girl - exactly like him. I've even had people ask me if I am her nanny, because she looks nothing like me. :)

I read something somewhere that said that most babies DO look more like their fathers - it is theorized that in the pre-DNA test days, babies who looked like their fathers were more likely to be readily cared for by their fathers. Babies who looked more like the mother might not have been as accepted by the father, and therefore may have received less food, protection, etc. Therefore, the evolutionary advantage went toward babies who looked more like their fathers, and those traits would be passed on to the next generation. This is why so many newborns have their father's features, and then you see many of them changing toward 2 years old and starting to look more like mom, or a blend of mom and dad.

I say this because she's 6 weeks old...they change so fast. I say don't worry about it.

People say our daughter looks like her dad...but you put a picture of me at her age next to one of her, and we look just alike.

I actually look like whichever parent I am standing next to. I have even been told I look just like my step dad and his family! That's weird!

i know it can be annoying lol...i kind of have a different situation, my son looks a LOT like me - except for a couple key features, his eye color being one, and his nose. so since we live near MY family, i hear all the time how he looks just like me - then on vacations to visit my inlaws (once a year or once every two years) i spend and ENTIRE WEEK hearing everyone saying, "OMG HE LOOKS JUST LIKE HIS DADDY!" so i KNOW that he doesn't look JUST like him - but it's like they just ignore the fact that he is 90% me.

anyway...lol. these are the silly little things that bug us moms!

i was going to say, just hang in there. she will probably ACT a lot like you. in our family we had two kids who looked like dad, and two kids that looked like mom. the ones that looked like dad act like mom lol. and vice versa. (Ps, just make it a joke, "well i guess he can't deny it then!" lol)

Buck up, it could change. My son was my husband's clone; so much so we framed their newborn pics next to each other because you really can't tell the difference. Fast forward 10 years, he looks just like I did when I was little. My daughter came out a clone of my MIL, I actually took one look at her in the delivery room and said "great, I gave birth to my MIL"; so it could be worse :) Today (8 yrs later) my daughter looks just like my husband.

My husband was that guy who everyone told him our first son looked exactly like me and there was no denying it. Thankfully he never let it bother him even though some remarks such as "are you sure you are the father," were a bit irksome. As our oldest son got older you could start seeing my husband in him. But it took a while. With our second son again the same thing all over again. Though with him he still continues to favor me. Our oldest is almost identical to his father, even some of his mannerisms.

Sometimes when they hit puberty you begin to see the resemblance of the same sex parent, and I dont just mean the obvious male/female things. WE always talked about how much my niece looks like my husbands brother and now I see more of her mother in her. My brother's son was a mini mom until he became an adult and I look at him and he looks so much like my brother, how did I not see that before? So be patient, you never know....

Oh yes. My husband has straight blonde hair and blue-eyes with the light skin you'd expect. My skin is olive, my hair black and curly, though my eyes are grey.
Wouldn't you know both kids came out straight and blonde with Daddy's peaches-and-cream complexion. I used to get asked if I was the babysitter! When they got to about three though, things began to change and the things I gave them: eyes, smile, etc., took on more prominence. Now at 16 and 12 they couldn't deny me as their mother if they wanted to, and sometimes I bet they do.
Hold in there, it gets better! This is just nature's way of reassuring Daddy that the baby is really his (not that your husband has any doubts, but nature doesn't know that, does she?)

I've heard that too about my daughter. My husbands family and ours have similarities, his sister looks like my grandmother, to name one.

The worst was a few years ago. I saw someone I hadn't seen in about 4 years who said quite a few times how beautiful my daughter was in a puzzled tone. It got wierder when she said it again and added, "She looks like (hubby's name) doesn't she?" Her expression was if she had figured out how such a beautiful child could have such a hideous parent. I said brightly, "Yes, she does!" After I let an awkward pause hang in the air. LOL, knowing this person, this may not have been intentional but the thought and feelings behind it were. It's been a great conversation filler though!

From what I have read it had to do with cave days when we gave birth to a child that the child would resemble the father so that the father would accept the child. Hopefully she will start to look like you more later.

I remember thinking that the nurse brought me the wrong child until I looked at the face and I could see that she had her dad's shaped (oval) face. She now looks more like me.

Whatever, enjoy your baby and know that you have the stretch marks to prove she is yours.
