My son will be 11 mths on Christmas and I just took him to the Ped. today. They are telling me that his head is very large for his age. So now he has to go for a cranial ultrasound in a week. He has to be sedated for this. Has anyone went through this with they're child? I would like to know what to expect and what they could be looking for. Personally I just think he has a big head.... He's a big boy all around. Any help would be appreciated.....

What can I do next?

I've been using this site for school reports and think it might help you. I hope your baby is alright. If copy and paste won't work just go to webmd.com. Good Luck.

Copy and paste that link. That site may help you undersatand a few things. You could also ask the pred. what they are looking for. Don't let yourself get worried about it. It will only drive you crazy. When my daughter was just a baby I took her to the dr. because she had a real nasty cough. They done xrays of her chest and the dr. said her heart looked inlarged. I freaked out. She sent the xrays to a tech who looked them over. It took them over a week to get back to me and the whole time I done nothing, but worry about what was wrong with my baby. It drove me crazy. When they finaly did get back to me it was nothing and the dr. had just misread the xrays.
I hope that site helps or maybe links you to something that does.

My daughter is will be 11 months old on the 15th. She also had to go through this. They gave me the sedation liquid stuff to give her, but she was already asleep when the time came so I didn't have to give it to her. They put her on this skinny table and this big machine took pictures of her head and stuff. And everything came out fine. They are looking for an abnormal brain, too much fluid in there, etc... But most babies, like mine, just have a big head. I know its stressful. It scared me to death, but everything was fine, I hope yours is too. Good Luck!!

Hi A.-

I recently went through a scare similar to this with my two year old little boy. We ended up at Riley Children's hospital seeing a specialist. They told me that he was disabled and would never leave my house. Long story short, "they" were wrong, completely, and he is just fine. None the worse for wear. He'll be leaving my house but hopefully not too soon! My point is that medicine is a practice, not a profession. They don't all know what they're talking about all of the time; they are human. I'm not telling you not to trust your ped. but do not worry about this. It will all turn out for the best. You have to do what is right by your baby but worrying yourself sick will do you nor your baby any good. They're probably just taking the safe route. I know both of my boys had heads in the %95... They're fine. :-) I'll be sending positive thoughts your way. Until you find out for sure what's going on, enjoy your baby! Life is grand!

Smiles-
A.
