My daughter has been complaining about a cramp in her upper leg now for the past few days and I dont know if I should call the dr. or take her to get x-ray or what. She is 5 and i didnt even know she knew what a cramp was. Then I thought she kept making it up because of the attention she got and she couldnt walk so I had to carry her(jealous of her brother and wants to be the baby) It just happens once a day but she always points to the same spot and same leg. We have been walking a lot and she hasnt been eating as healthy as she should but i dont know if that has anything to do with the cramp or if it could be really serious. Maybe she is making it up---- She starts kindergarten on thurs and i dont want her to be in pain at school so i just dont know what my next step should be. Can the ped. even do anything for a cramp?? Thanks again for the help.

What can I do next?

I would see the doctor to rule out any injuries, etc. You can give her a banana in the meantime because the potassium is good for leg cramps. Good Luck!

I would talk to the doctor. In the mean time make sure she's getting enough water and calcium. My daughter used to have leg cramps often and we realized it was because she needed more calcium. She was allergic to milk so we were new at finding alternatives at the time.

Give your pediatrician a call. Leg cramps can be a sign of a blood clot. I also know of a little girl who recently had a fracture in her leg that went unnoticed for a few days. It probably isn't anything serious, but I would definitely get a medical opinion just in case.

It could be a muscular thing, growing pains...other. I would say if she is consistent in her complaints, she should see a dr. It's been pretty hot lately - is she drinking enough? She could have been playing hard, too. You could even buy her a "special drink" (gatorade has a lot of sugar but pedialyte seems to be a better choice -however, if you are just trying to find out if she is doing this for attention-seeking purpose, I wouldn't think a small sports drink would hurt.) Follow your instincts. I'm sure you won't let this go on too long. Good luck.
