Cowboy Boots

I'm wondering if anyone has advice about leaving a 6 year old wear cowboy boots to school every day. My son wants to wear them and it just seems like they are not designed as well as tennis shoes. I'm afraid he will have foot problems in the future. Anyone have insight on future problems that may arise from letting a kid wear boots at a young age?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

According to most of your posts, I guess it's not such a bad thing to let him do. I'm just wondering how do you tell if they are good boots? I made sure they are all leather and good construction, but other than brand names, how do you know if they are ok?

my 4 year old wears his cowboys boots any time he is wearing pants (to school and and at home) and sometimes even with shorts he looks kinda goofy but he doesnt care. He LOVES his boots, actually he has 2 pairs, one for play (and school) and one for when he needs to look nice but wont wear dress shoes. He says they are more comfortable than any of his tennis shoes.

It's a phase, so as long as it's OK with the school and he brings sneakers on PE day, let him do it. They are pretty comfortable, so he may really get into it or he may decide that they are not so cool after a few weeks.

I can't see where this would be more harmful than wearing flip flops every day as a kid in Florida! In fact, there's more support and structure in a boot than a flippie!

Boots are jus like any other shoe... some are good and some are not. I grew up in boots and I would wear my Ariats everyday and feel great. My son wears his Laredo boots all the time and he is fine, but his friend wears the cheap Walmart brand and they are junk.

I would just make sure that you buy a good well made brand (a little big for grown) and let him wear them.

My son has PE on Mondays and Thursdays, so he has to wear tennis shoes on those days. It takes too long for the kids to change shoes, so they discourage bringing different shoes. On other days he can wear his cowboy boots. Hope this helps! :)

Unfortunately/fortunately at our daughters elementary school, they run track EVERY day and so only tennis shoes are allowed K-5th. They do not have time for the kids to change shoes for PE or or for Recess. Made it easy to purchase school shoes. No fights in the morning.

Our daughter, and I am not kidding.. refused to wear any tennis shoes until she was told starting in kindergarten that is all she would only be allowed to wear them. From then on all she wore to school all the way through High School was Tennis shoes for school.

Maybe you can keep his boots in the car, so when he gets off from school, he can change into them.

I let my son last year when he was six....he was obsessed with them for months...he has since moved on. If they hurt his feet he won't wear them the next day.

My son wears them too and loves them. My husband wore them too when he was younger and now he has messed up feet. Seriously, he can't wear them as an adult. Just keep an eye on his feet

Yep my son did the same thing. I let him. He would sleep with them on! He loved them that much! He looked really silly with his boots and shorts on!!! My husband wore then all the time until he started working and needed to wear dress shoes.

I have boots as well and they are the most comfy shoes I own. Well other than my Coach shoes (which I got on sale) yay me!
