Commission Percentage

I would be leery of a company who tells you that you will be their "first" representative. I would ask them how long have they been in business, also which area are you going to be their first rep in. Sometimes sales people make it sound better than it is. I have been self-employed with Discovery Toys for 8 years and I work on commission only. For a brand new person, the commission is 20% with a bonus program based on sales. I make double as a manager. I hope you get the answers you are looking for. Good luck and if things don't work out, I would LOVE to have you represent our company!

15 to 20% !! But>>>get a expense allowance!! Since this is a new
company (as you say) then you will have to do a lot of PR to
get started and it will take time to build enough volume to
make money!
If it is a large territory, say, like, Austin,Waco, Corpus Christi and the Valley, it is going to take a lot of out of
pocket expense to cover it! Over night and gasoline expenses
in todays market can become very high!!
I personally just left a company because when I signed on gasoline was only $1.65, but, as time went on, as you know
gasoline has gone out of sight and they weren't willing to
cover any expenses!!
If they won't cover expenses to start, Keep Looking!!

I worked for whole child learning and was paid $3. per student. The student's cost was $8 a class. The lady I worked for provided all the material I needed plus the computer. I would frequently take a "guest" or two, if my class was small, to get more to sign up for the class. It was a really fun job. I taught computer "gigglebytes" & exercise "busy bodies" to preschool kids. They also teach spanish "little amigos". Hope this helps. M.

R., I suggest using the sales projections of the company as a starting point, and to gain a percentage number to apply to the sales projection amount, check on other companies who have the same base amount of sales numbers.

Look into other sales companies such as Scholastic, and there are many other educational product/companies out there to apply this same sort of analysis to as well.

This hopefully will give you some sense of where to begin on the % of commision.
And also utilize the concept of what you would make in another job. Pick out 2-3 other jobs that would require as much as you will be putting into this one and use that pay scale as a reference point, plus add your 36 years experience value and your connections within the educational fields.
